Buddhism for Beginners
Thubten Chodron
Today , reading as I rode my stationery bike, I read these words from this book. page 29
I paraphrase..
When you step on a thorn, you reach down, pull it out, but your hand does not scold your foot.."You're so stupid!"
Aren't we all tempted on so many occasions to respond with something like that...?
How hard it is to remember....not to scold and berate! Yikes...it hurts to think about it!
However, the importance of this is that we try and remain aware, especially with our children who emulate our actions.
You would never berate your foot...you would have compassion for its pain...
Oh, how hard it is to maintain composure, but this is worth working for, each day we fall down, we get up and try again.. There is nothing like an awakening of trying to understand and follow the words so freely given..
Why in the world do the Buddhists want to hide their ability to have a "shining body??" I think that the world is ready for some of this exposure to be available and taught to more people, it will give them hope for a better world.
See, I still have lots to learn, because I do not yet understand the reason for the veil...unless you have to come to the learning, but then so many are left out because they can never come to the realization that is necessary. How elevated do you have to be to understand this when there are millions of people that have not had a chance to even begin to learn the way ?
