music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Marvin Gaye - Lets Get It On

Oops, I gave you Marvin Gaye and then said Sam Cooke...it must be too early...in the morning....here is the sound, that I compare to the sound Amy gives us...in some of her hits...I love her band...  where are they hiding?

Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game

Here is another song, that has the background band sound I am trying to identify...not quite....are you with me?

The Four Aces - Tell Me Why (1951)

The seniors ruled the high school when this song came out....and we juniors stood by in awe of them.  In those days we were in what is now a museum next to the police station downtown Framingham.  Our girls room was in the basement and music was piped into the room.  This record and its flip side , Garden in the Rain, where played and I never forgot that scene as the music froze it in my mind forever.

I donated some copies of my book, Small Town America, Framingham, to Framingham History Center so if you go carolling on Sunday on the common at Framingham Center, you will be able to buy a copy.  All proceeds from the sale go to the Framingham History Center.

Teach Me Tonight - Jo Stafford

Jo Stafford has a great intro here, the sound of her voice its pitch and tone are perfect for this song!  Love the drag sound of the band..horns are great to fill in the painting the song makes ...aren't they?  You must agree, the two versions Jo and Amy are both terrific , each in their own way!

Teach Me Tonight-The DeCastro Sisters

A lovely version of the song....but I still choose Jo Stafford and Amy Winehouse as the two best versions.  Can we tie them, or say they win each in their own way.  I choose the latter!

Amy Winehouse - Teach Me Tonight (Live At Jools Holland 2005)

Looking for some of the comparisons that I spoke about with the back up band, and fell on this again.  Looked at some of the comments, and guess what...I too loved the Jo Stafford version, who didn't, but you can sink right into the Amy Winehouse version too...they are just great interpretations by different artists...now I have to go check the De Castro sisters who it says on the comments recorded this first...

Amy Winehouse - You know I'm no good. Live in London 2007

Love her band....and listening for the similarities with Marvin Gaye

Small Town America Framingham Thru M...       Today was the day, as Roosevelt said,  "This day will live in infamy!"   It was the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed.  What was life like in those days?  What was in style, where there cars for everyone?  What kind of stores did we have?  How did we get around?  In Framingham, we lived like most of the small towns in the United States, and in fact we where chosen as a typical small town by the United States Government.

What would we have done without Neil Sadaka?  His music was so uplifitng and fun!

Take Five - The Dave Brubeck Quartet (1959)
