music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

English May Have Retained Words From an Ice Age Language - ScienceNOW

English May Have Retained Words From an Ice Age Language - ScienceNOW  this is a great site, and the information is always interesting.

LARGEST CRYSTAL DISCOVERED IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE

http://youtu.be/Jnap_Thtem0    Interesting....have you ever been in the Bermuda Triangle?....Usually people lose their way because the compass does not hold steady North....and the current pushes you North while you are heading into the East....so you need to constantly correct course, and plan for the current....but who knows maybe there are some magnetic properties in the soil below the sea, that cause the compass to go whacky!  Did you ever read about that happening in a good thriller...it could happen you know...

Headlines of the Week
From the Desk of Trudy Coxe
This Week's Highlight of the Collection:
First published in the 1880s, Ladies Home Journal was one of the most popular publications of the 20th century and continues to be printed today. This May, 1891 issue included an article from "Mrs. Vanderbilt's Kitchen," as well as poetry, articles on housekeeping, knitting and crochet patterns, clothing suggestions for women at their school graduations, and editorials on women's issues.
John Tschirch was a good sport during the tribute we paid to him during his final Symposium dinner at The Breakers. Overall, the Symposium was a great success.

Congratulations to International Council member Nancy Dubuc, who has just been promoted to President and CEO of the A+E Networks. She'll oversee day-to-day operations of the company, which includes the History, Lifetime and A&E channels, as well as 500 employees and about $3.5 billion in annual revenue! Read more about Nancy's amazing career.
Speaking of television, we've been visited in the last two weeks by TV crews from Boston, Providence and Springfield news stations, working on features about our houses. That's Caitlin Emery being interviewed by Channel 10's R.J. Heim in The Elms dining room. We're also working with a producer from Wealth TV to feature a couple of our houses on a new program called "Castles of the Ages," as well as a French documentary filmmaker for a series called "Secrets d'Histoire."
We were so happy this week to see the incredibly supportive editorial in the Providence Journal about our plans for the welcome center at The Breakers. In case you missed it, you can read the ProJo editorial here.

We're also grateful to our friend Evan Smith, CEO of Discover Newport, for his public support. You can read Evan's Letter to the Editor here.
We have secured two amazing, nationally-renowned chefs for our Wine and Food Festival in September. Food Network "Iron Chef" Alex Guarnaschelli (left) and James Beard Award winner Michel Richard will headline the Grand Tastings on September 21 and 22.
Congratulations to Terry Dickinson on his election as Chairman of the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County last night. It's a feather in the cap for both Terry and the PS. The Alliance is the premier organization that promotes and advances arts and culture in the region.
Many thanks to Angela Moore and Nancy Roy for helping to inspire the troops at the Educational Sales Department's kickoff meeting this week. Nancy shared the following quote with our staff which is worth thinking about when we do our jobs: "A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us; we are dependent on him. He is not an interruption to our work;he is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business; he is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him; he is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so." Mahatma Gandhi

The tree that we had to take down outside the children's cottage at The Breakers put up quite a fight. Here's the massive stump being hauled away today. Getting it out of the ground without damaging the adjacent driveway proved to be quite the challenge!
International Council members Richard Guy Wilson and Pauline Metcalf gave great lectures about Ogden Codman and Edith Wharton at a conference held by the Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday. The Codman rooms at The Breakers were on tour.
Huge week ahead. Green Animals and Kingscote open on Saturday, May 11. May you have a productive week.
