music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Best Trophy Cars, Plus a Truck and Bike - MSN Autos

Best Trophy Cars, Plus a Truck and Bike - MSN Autos    Dream a little dream of cars!
Today I heard that the United Nations thinks that the people of the United States should stop spending for certain things...I won't list...or refer, however, what happens to all the workers who make the things they want us to stop buying?  Will those workers have jobs, or get laid off when the purchasing stops?  Doesn't anyone do any forward thinking before declaring, you should do this, or that...?

What about dreaming and working hard to get something you would love and enjoy using for your short time on this earth?  Isn't that what makes trade, commerce?  Since the beginning of trade and commerce, it has always been that people have desired or needed certain goods, this fosters trade, commerce and jobs...
Help! this world is crazy sometimes!

Joao Gilberto - "I Wish You Love (Que reste-t-il de nos amours?) (Gloria...

I think that the big hit, was by Nat King Cole, but most if not all of his videos are blocked from sharing and keeping his music alive on YouTube.  I wonder if it is good to let them be posted shared and kept alive?  It appears that allowing some, if not all, to be shared is good for publicity, but, who knows?

"I Wish You Love" alternate version Keely Smith

 Maybe it was Keely?

I Wish You Love - Michael Buble

This was a big hit by who?
I have to run back in time and find out.  Meanwhile enjoy Michael's version.

(It Will Have To Do) Until The Real Thing Comes Along.wmv

The Ink Spots were everywhere, their voices melted into our consciousness. I never realized  they would disappear like all of us do.  Movie stars and musicians would live forever, never changing.  I guess they do, in their recordings and in the film that still exists.

Billie Holiday - Until the Real Thing Comes Along (1942)

Another presentation , the roots of Amy Winehouse

Till the Real Thing Comes Along Rod Stewart

here us the great Rod Stewart version...and lets go to another oldie version

Frank Sinatra & Quincy Jones - Until The Real Thing Comes Along

I thought that I might play this then Rod Stewart, lets see what happens..

Mary Ford & Les Paul-Just One More Chance Capitol Records

There was music all around us, as we the first teens with cars, cruised the main streets, went to the soda shops and drive in's and this is what we heard coming out of the radios and the juke boxes, and in our portable radios... my new book will be out in a few weeks...talking about growing up in the 40's and early 50's.

Dr John - Such a Night.wmv

once again, see him at the Newport Jazz Festival this year.

FRANK SINATRA- Sky fell down

A great song, recorded in 1940 by Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey, I can hear some of the sultry voices of today doing this song, or even a Sinatra voice or a Torme voice.

James Tormé "Love For Sale" (longer version)

Just a reminder, and a little story along with it.

The False Allure Of Group Selection | Conversation | Edge

The False Allure Of Group Selection | Conversation | Edge

Finally, a breath of fresh air, it is a long read, but time to listen.  The other night I was watching the Science channel, and a researcher, heard his mother say..."We are related to Lizzie Borden, why not research the murderers in our family?  There were around 5 or more murderers in his family, I don't recall the number he mentioned.  So the research began by viewing the brains of family members and comparing them  to those of known murderers who had a certain pattern in their brain.  Of all the family members ...you guessed it, the erudite, researcher was the one with the brain pattern of a murderer,  He was the only one in the family, and certainly not a murderer.

In interviewing family members they all agreed he had certain traits that were not the greatest, I don't want to use an incorrect word here,  he agreed he had traits that were not pleasing, but, in all of this he learned that his upbringing, a happy childhood had overcome his genetic traits.   I bring this up here, because so much depends on mothers and fathers....a happy home made the difference between his being a murderer and a science researcher.  So, not the group, but the individuals who make the group, are important.

Don't most groups fall into patterns?   Then someone like Hitler steps forward to use crowd psychology.....or somone says follow me, I am right, we will abort  girls  they are worthless,we only need one per family...we have enough women of the right genetic disposition to take care of our needs
for 20years .  The point I think is that human nature has shown itself in collective societies  as being freedom bound.  History has shown that mores, grow out of taboos, right or wrong...so society will always set boundaries, it is part of human nature.  We need to concentrate on growing the individual to his or her greatest potential, so they don't go to gangs and end up in prison.  I think it is a tragedy that we don't have schools and apprenticeships for non college bound students.  We are not all college bound, nor should we be.

The immigrants that come here to our country show us, that there is more to life than college, there is hard work outside in the fields, that gives people a chance to build strong bodies, there is office work where the brain is used, but you are desk bound, and more prone to bodily aches and pains... so each occupation has its rewards...not all the same.  I could go on, but you get the gist of it...We work too hard to give everyone the same opportunity....the words are wrong.   The opportunity is here in the USA for all of us to reach our potential, only we are shutting down the non college "kids", who could run great repair shops, carpentry shops, and other societal needs that are growing daily with the new inventions and changing culture.  We are our own worst enemy, just getting the kids out of gangs with something interesting and fun that provides a career would be a big step....learning to drive trucks, learning the value of a clean record, so they can get licensed, encouraging them to start a business to be a leader of something good, instead of something negative.

"One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)" Frank Sinatra

Now listen to this, low register, slow timing, and it all comes together...maybe because he lifts the register about mid song...what is the secret?
Ears are the most important part of training, listening to the greats and how they struggled to find the right place, that magic place that made them famous.  Louis Armstrong talked his way ...thru songs, right?  It was the totality of the package....?

Frank Sinatra - Yesterday (with lyrics)

Now listen to this number, the voice is getting to the higher register....but the timing is ?

Frank Sinatra - Isn't She Lovely ? (Reprise 1979)

The tip for today!  Listen to this song if you are a Sinatra like singer....you don't need me to tell you what is wrong...now critique your own music against this, and you will see what you need to do...Maybe he started this a notch too low for his voice.   To me, he is singing too low and can't quite get the right place for his voice...this is the difference between a great recording and a so so recording...like all of us, he probably had it with doing it over and over again, but that is what makes excellence.  Writing a book is the same thing, it is boring to write it over and over and over, and correct and correct...

Eric Clapton - After Midnight

time for this ....almost forgotten.  I watched a rock concert with Eric Clapton last night, and realized, I can float along with his music, it reaches me just right, his beat, his rhythm, his voice and his creative guitar.

George Shearing & Mel Torme - Medley At Newport

Imagine going to the Newport Jazz Festival and ....this is your treat!  Wow!  The King of scat...and when these two teamed up!

Duke Ellington - Satin Doll

each song brings me to another one, they pop up, and I can't help it...this follows the other two

Count Basie - Shiny Stockings

if you liked Me and Mrs Jones, then this fits in the same category!  Maybe Michael Buble should try this one...

Michael Bublé - Me And Mrs Jones (Official Music Video)

this song fits his voice and pace. A great one for Michael.

Michael Buble - Dream a Little Dream of Me

Comon along with Michael Buble..

The Doors - Light My Fire (Live)

How could I put up one version without the other?

Light My Fire - Jose Feliciano (Doors)

When someone or a couple of artists do a BLOW OUT like this, they make a song so fantastic how can we compete?   The Doors and this...how or who can do it better?

Bruce Channel - Hey! Baby

And the record player went round and round all day long, over and over....comon who can do this one again.....how can the kids not like it?

Duprees - You Belong To Me (Original Stereo)

I think I am building an album of songs to bring back, they are so good!  They were loved by all of us, they make memories come even if you never traveled to old Algiers, you know what the lyrics meant..

MEL CARTER (Live) - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me

A dynamite song, that can have many faces in its arrangement, who can bring their voice to this today, maybe James Torme?  Doesn't music paint a picture, in sound?  It calls forth from your experience.  Don't we all love a great love song?

The Skyliners - Since I Don't Have You

One of my all time favorites you can see by the views that this song has great appeal...it needs a new voice....from one of our new young male singers.  It deserves to live for another generation.

It's All In The Game - Tommy Edwards

It was and still is a wonderful song, waiting to be reborn

The Platters - Glory of Love

This song speaks for itself as being worthy of revival, by a great voice with a wonderful arranger...maybe K.D. Lang could make this a hugh hit, with her voice.

Lionel Richie - All Night Long

This song was made for Lionel richie, he has it all together for this number.  You wouldn't believe the day I had, what a relief to have fun with music!

Huey Lewis - The Power Of Love

Another guaranteed hit,  everyone went back to the 20;s for hits in the 40;s and 50;s , why not bring music back with some of the great hits of the past.

Ricky Nelson - Garden Party

This is a song, that has keeper status, someone could revive this....

Dinah Washington - I Wanna Be Loved -

I could have put her version of  You Send Me, up, but this song was a drop dead hit , and I can't remember anyone having a bigger hit with it than her.

Lenny Welch - Since I Fell For You (Original Stereo)

I think this is the version, that all of us went crazy for, when this record was first released.  Over and over it played on the record player!

Jose Feliciano - Since I Fell For You

you have to put this presentation up there with the best of them....

AL JARREAU - Since I Fell for You (Best of Al Jarreau)

Oldie but goody, guaranteed to get you accolades at a dinner club, or somewhere where you change the pace....

George Benson - Give Me The Night

Has he got it!

George Benson - Beyond the Sea (Live Montreux 1986)

some people have talent that is overwhelming, George Benson, is one that just sends me.   Just listen to his voice, the arrangement is fantastic...Mel Torme was another .who could do no wrong, in my ears... just about everything he chose to record was right for him....

This song, everything about it , is right for George Benson, you can feel him completely absorbed in his presentation......
