music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Tony Bennett - Isn't It Romantic

Tony Bennett one of the best voices....listen then

listen to thisjphnny mathis

two great voices both doing a great job.....

now this.....Michael Feinstein

One of these arrangements sticks, comes back to me in his voice all the time....There are songs made for certain voices, and the great voices do a good job, but one voice stands out...either the voice or the arrangement.

In this case,

Michael Feinstein, is my favorite how about you?

"Unbroken",A new and fabulous book

Today is most appropriate to post this as it addresses the trail of fright, terror, and utter despair our fighting men endured in the 2nd World War ( and in any war). We face the loss today of a man ,Robin Williams, who made us laugh and now cry because he gave up!    How do these events intermingle? The wonderful Billy Graham saved our hero in "Unbroken" how many of us are that fortunate?

Words and ideas escape us ,we feel helpless with people in despair and depression, but they do laugh, and smile at times, so somewhere behind and deep below that sadness is the spark of their soul.  Maybe as a society we need to put forth more positive movies, music , etc, books that illustrate the magic and hope in the worlds specially for the young souls, teens and young adults so they know redemption is a given.

Watching " The Egyptian" yesterday ,a movie ( and book of the 50's ) the difference between our present culture and then was so apparent.  "Unbroken" and "The Egyptian",both show how we can redeem ourselves from the darkest days.    Children need to learn young that they can face life bravely even when they make big mistakes and that redemption is possible because it brings peace.

"Unbroken" just released has over 10,000 reviews on Amazon including mine.  It was and is a book of the year.  A book that illustrates what our culture of the late 40's and 50's produced, and how this "MAN " handled his life with incredible stamina, bravery, and forgiveness when it seemed no one could ever forgive such atrocious brutality

Our precious souls need more attention in the early growing stages ,don't you agree?

Nomination for the Nobel Prize, confirming inflationary model of the universe....

Astronomers have discovered traces of gravitational waves in the relict radiation, confirming the inflationary model of the universe. As stated by leading scientists around the world, this long-awaited finding will soon be nominated for the Nobel Prize.
The announcement of the discovery about of new evidence supporting the inflationary model of the universe caused an unprecedented excitement in the scientific world.
The central idea of this model states that our universe is only one “unit” in an infinite and ever-expanding set of unrelated parallel universes which form the so-called multiverse.
The existence of the multiverse is suggested by other theories such as string theory and by such fields of theoretical physics as quantum mechanics.
If there is inflation, then there is multiverse. Any proof of inflation brings us closer to verifying the existence of the multiverse,” says Andrei Linde, author of the theory of cosmic inflation and Professor of Physics at Stanford University.
The researchers claim to have managed to detect a celestial signal arising from the ultra-fast expansion of the universe after a split second after the Big Bang.
Of course, the results should be double-checked by independent experts, but world-renowned scientists do not doubt their authenticity. Most likely, the authors of this work will soon be nominated for the Nobel Prize in physics.
The results were obtained by the American group of researchers working on the BICEP2 project. They processed the data of the radio telescope at the South Pole, which is continuously recording celestial signals.
The scientists were trying to find some traces of the inflation of the universe, i.e. the exponential expansion of space just after the Big Bang.
The inflationary universe model suggests the appearance of giant gravitational waves directly after the birth of the world, which should leave a trace in the relic microwave radiation, which has long been discovered by astronomers.
These were the traces, i.e. polarization of the magnetic mode (B- mode) of radiation, that were discovered by the researchers during the BICEP2 experiment. Only gravitational waves resulting from inflationary phase of expansion of the universe could leave such a mark in the CMB.
Gravitational waves were predicted by Albert Einstein 100 years ago in his famous general theory of relativity (GTR). Thus, in addition, the scientists managed to get one more convincing proof of general relativity.
The discovery gives us unprecedented opportunities in a completely new field of physics, which will explore the phenomena that occurred immediately after the Big Bang,” said Professor John Kovac, head of the BICEP2 group.
The most amazing thing is that the traces discovered in the signal were much stronger than the scientists expected, which allows them to automatically exclude a number of theories in the inflationary universe model.

Salty Dog Gallery, and Acadia national Park...take a peek

Planning on an escape to Maine, our friends Joan and Phil Steel are parents of the Salty Dog Gallery
Say "Hello" for us....then visit this magnificent park, gifted by the Rockefeller's..

This is the season in Maine when most of the South heads to Maine for their vacation...as one Texan said,
"its 75 degrees here and 110 degrees in Texas in the shade"., and .......Acadia National Park was voted the #1 Park in the Nation....The park is next door to the gallery..

About Us:
Please plan to excape the heat, and  visit us on Mount Desert Island. The Acadia National Park is within walking distance of The Salty Dog Gallery, and  the park has over 200 miles of hiking trails with exceptional views of the Gulf of Maine and surrounding Islands.

Dr. Weil's Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid

Dr. Weil's Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid  today I thought of how much food we eat without thought .  So I decided to investigate a little on some of the ideas I followed at a younger age.  Dr Pauling was touting 1000 mg of Vitamin C a day, and other doctors were saying nay!  But now, to reduce your CRP,  which could be an indicator of heart disease. ( we know it is an indicator of inflammation), doctors are now saying take 1000 mg of vitamin C a day.

Dr Weil goes further and recommends super foods and a pyramid to follow to keep your body balanced and not acidic.

It is hard to do in this day and age, when food values are changing, even our plants our changing.  What will happen if we have a war and the only seeds on earth are proprietary and we can no longer grow watermelons from their seeds, or carrots and apples from their seeds...

The Girls of Atomic City

4.0 out of 5 stars Second World War atmosphere, feelings, life, its all here.July 7, 2014
By
madlyn fafard (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II (Paperback)
If you always wanted to learn about the Second World War, this is a good start. Told from a number of voices, it touches on segregation, the plight of women who had little exposure to opportunity even if they went to college, the struggle of the working families to put food on the table, whether black or white. How few women got the chance to go to college. How drudging work could be and how much fun dancing and bowling were to lighten the load of the working folks. All of the culture of the time, rises up as families and individuals face the opportunity for a new job in an unknown place , doing something they knew nothing about, working in secrecy , in difficult living conditions, and making the best of it. The whispering and meanness of people, who guessed at secrets, when they did not know what was going on, even in war time, the stand offish attitude toward others....people were less open, less able to comprehend what others might be doing, the struggle for survival was still too close to home.. Its not far from my mind, as I recall the dads and moms in my neighborhood, and I know that my dad made $25.00 a week, supporting a family of 4. Bread was around 5 cents a loaf then..

This story filled in the part about the Germans for me, as the scientists they confined in England, admitted they were no where near the development of the bomb in Germany. Maybe no other country could have done what we did, because the cost of building the bomb was STUPENDOUS, for that day and age....the size of the plants, and the product that was emitted, are all shocking, so little for such effort, who else but the United States, would be able to produce this feat, just as we did with the production of war goods and supplies for our men. The picture of the time is just a start, if you are interested in the 2nd World Was as I am , one of the books I really enjoyed was on how our country mobilized.Freedom's Forge: How American Business Produced Victory in World War II This book is perfect to follow The Girls of Atomic City.

The Midnight Special More 1978 - 15 - Peter Allen - I Go To Rio

there is something about this song, that has great potential, waiting for it to break out again?

Glenn Miller and the Army Air Force Band - Over There

Just look at the hits this plane had!  In the day when there was no air conditioning or heat in a plane, the pilots wore heavy leather jackets, lined with fleece...precision bombing?  What was that...just let the whole load go, we are over target...

the song is from the first world war, but popular in the second world war , too.  What purpose?  What gain?

How can we overcome those who want to wage war?  Can you truly subjugate the world?

Gomer Sings With Hippys

Gomer Pyle was before Forrest Gump....and he had a wonderful voice

THE EDDIE DUCHIN STORY

K-Rations: "Food for Fighters" circa 1943 US Office of War Information W...

Once in a while I seem to remember, ( or maybe more than once in awhile, we got films like this at the Saturday matinee, during the war.    Now watching this, I think this must have given birth to the idea of fast food...as we know it today.....???

Claire Mahoney Lavin, (for my class mates)

Going back to high school days ...many of you will remember Claire Mahony Lavin, who died this past week.  She will be remembered for giving to the community as a Selectwoman, a successful real estate broker, mother of 5 children, a provider and dual parent, because she lost her husband Joe Lavin, at a young age.  Claire was a remarkable woman, she always did the best she could and that was what made her special..

The Girls of Atomic City, my newest read...quote about dictators

Laura, the wife of Enrico Fermi was Jewish, they joined the exodus and eventually wound up in the United States with the International team of scientists that were to work on the Atomic bomb.  From the book , page 79, "These scientists-Hungarians , Italians, Germans-knew the power and speed with which a dictatorial state could mobilize ,Universities, Military Research.  Back in their war-ravaged homelands, these entities, each with their own expertise and power, were under a single direction, guided and controlled by one hand."

"A dictator decrees,"  she later wrote, "a president asks Congress for permission to organize."
