The review of this book caught my eye in the Wall Street Jounal Saturday edition, March 15, 2013.  Bretton Woods was a subject of discussion  in 1944 in my home.  Everyone seemed to be talking about the good and bad of what was going to happen here.

Is it really any wonder how little respect taxpayers have for their government with the type of response demonstrated by the Securities and Exchange Commission in the cases of Illinois and New Jersey ("SEC Says Illinois Hid Pension Troubles," page one, March 12)? The notion that our government offices and the officials who oversee their operations should be exempt from any notion of financial accountability or culpability is simply beyond the pale.
By all rights, the crony statism that we see on display should really be the focus of this story. In addition, Wall Street appears fully prepared to give its friends in crony statism a pass when it comes to protecting the integrity of the municipal bond market.
And you ask why we're in the financial quagmire we're in? Good luck, kids. Some legacy your parents are passing on. What a truly stand-up generation we are.

Since pension manipulation is subject to government-paid legislators lining their own pensions, prudent decisions are unlikely.
I urge our congressional legislators to remove all public pay and benefits from government capriciousness and have these matters managed and controlled by the same laws applied to private corporations.

Financial Times "The Undivided Past" book review 3/10/2013

Since today was my book review reading day, this one nicely ties in to how we view the past, the point of view we take and how  maybe it should shift, from focus on subjects we think are important to more generalized growth of civilization topics thus doing away with labels that lead to warring ways.  This is a brief synopsis of the long book review that raises some interesting points.  I am not sure we can congregate in our similarities, because the nature of man, is our differences....just as an article on The Future Cities I read in one of my morning papers today talks about how the cities reflect the tastes, desires, culture etc., of the people that build them.

 In my opinion we differ for many reasons.  For a society to grow  we need to have leaders, who create companies that employ people, we need to work so we can earn  leisure to be creative, to think about how to make a better life, to create art and music etc.,  a great society needs all kinds of people so we can learn to love in all the ways intended by the universe.

Think about it...how creative can you be, to build a world that will help others?  The smallest acts of creativity can make life better for someone else.  Often when teaching school, I thought how we make our own lives, sad and depressed, happy and joyful, and it is all up to us, to set out to find the formula.
Just helping others in need by small acts of kindness, can change body chemistry, but it needs to be done regularly, just as exercise for the body, there has to be a mental  exercise for body chemistry to change .  But then what do I know....I am the one that says, we need to teach self awareness in the early grades....maybe if we talk about a change in teaching self awareness and helping others, the unmeasurable rewards will bring the needed change.

FDR and the Jews, Book review NY Times 3/9/2013

This is a good book review(page C1) that gives an emerging look at a much discussed subject.  It is best to read it and form your own opinion of the time, decide if you want to read the book and learn more.  What I liked best was the concluding two paragraphs of the article..in quoting Henry L, Feingold, the author of The Politics of Rescue: The Roosevelt Administration and the Holocaust, 1938-1945, 

"The survivors said, 'You didn't do enough to save us,' and who could deny it?"  Mr. Feingold said, "But do you write history as it should have been or as it was?"

Interesting, that another article (Page C5), A Triangle of Mutating Meanings , talks about the past, and uses these words in the play it is discussing, "There are things I remember which may never have happened, but as I recall them so they take place," Anna says in "Old Times."

Wow, what a lot of fun I had with the Journal this morning,especially the C section of the paper,
A Creative New /Frame Game, was interesting and a new trend for artists to make the frame as beautiful and or enticing as the picture in it.  I loved the + Rashaad Newsome creation titled Rapture take a moment to read the article or find it on line...

Wall Street Journal Themes and Variations of Willai Gass

As a music lover, and a person who feels music tells a story, this article interested me.  It begins with the belief that "life was mostly made of themes and variations."  I too, agree with that.  Gass tries to capture the spirit of music in his writings, but music composition, tonality etc., suffers in the replication of Schonbergs style in transfer to written words, rather than notes.  I stayed with the article because of my interest in it, and you too might find it worth reading the review of the book Middle C.  My feeling is that music has to tell a story in the mind of the listener.  What do you think?

Is this the end of death as we know it? | Technology | guardian.co.uk   This was a tidy little piece about everyone's favorite subject.  Will we live on after death....I have my own ideas, which I published in my book, Secrets of the Heart, about the Resurection and how it came about, thru light waves.  Maybe the researchers will finally prove that, as it appears from the History Channel last night, where they recreated the face of Christ from the Shroud of Turin that is in Italy and the Veil..that is in Spain.    Anyway, have fun reading this little piece, and look on the History Channel to find the latest on the Shroud of Turin.

"Siriously Sinatra", a great contribution to music

Can;t help but think how important Siriously Sinatra is now and how it will be in the future.  Just think about it, interviews with stars who have passed on, a catalogue of programs that will be forever, because the music lives forever.  I wonder if they can develop a video Siriously Sinatra program ?  It might be just as wonderful with the advent of tv in the cars, to see and hear the performers will be great!

If you are a young singer, and want to be heard in the Jazz world, find your way to Siriously Sinatra.  The new young singers that are frequently appearing with the old jazz songs on Siriously Sinatra, are + Michael Buble, and +Steve Tyrell.  There is nothing like being heard to get your career going!  I love Siriously Sinatra, and I love being able to share my favorite music with you on my blogspot, to boost the music of the Great American Songbook, and  the original singers who are fading away, while introducing  the new singers, who really don't need the promotion, but, doesn't everyone love to be loved?
It is such a boone to have this technology..  Steve Tyrell was at the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach this past week and everyone is talking about him.  We love him!

Wow, I heard this author in an interview , could not remember where and it took me an hour to find the book, because I did not have the title right.   It looks wonderful and more reason to start to teach awareness in the early grades.  I plan to order it on Kindle tonight.

Book Review: Lee Kuan Yew - WSJ.com  This morning, I exercised on my bike for 20 minutes and reviewed the Wall Street Journal, as exercise for my mind.  Once again a book review caught my eye.
Its amazing how some people have an incredible world view, but even then we are not perfect.  Does imperfection ruin the beauty...of a mind, or a piece of art, the creation of music or anything in the world? My opinion is, of course not, it is the overall accomplishment that counts.  Imperfection haunts us, causes us to be creative and more.  Once again the East is brought forward to our intelligence, we have to stop ignoring the East, learn from it, study it, and adopt the best of it! 

Today in the WSJ an article  on alzheimers, pointed out that mind exercise would help delay the symptoms.  I don't know about you, but I prefer the challenge of learning and understanding the world, to word games and puzzles,  I hope it helps too!

Recently I had an awakening, that the subject we fail to teach in school is self awareness.  I  feel strongly that it would guide our nation to a better future.  The 4 Noble Truths of  the philosophy ofBuddhism as a starter in elementary school, would open so many to the world we live in.  Then today I ran across this book review in the Wall Street Journal, and it convinced me that our failure to see beyond the Western world in education leaves us with a major shortfall in learning.   If you do nothing but read this book review, you will have gained in tremendous knowledge of what we have to do to make our world a better place.

Loved the history and felt as though the men through history were contemporaries, although they spanned the centuries with their questions on developing temperament. The book was a gold mine of interesting information on the links between science, music, art, and math (and the "string theory" of modern scientific thought). If I was still teaching school, it would be a core book for the development of my lessons in any of the subjects above, to bring alive my classes. I was excited to talk about it to my friends today.

When I listen to music, I appreciate music that tells a story and paints a picture as when listening to "The Warsaw Concerto"[ASIN:B0000060DC Warsaw Concerto]] I also love music that is really special, as is the arrangement of La Mer, which accompanied the end of the movie in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier,Spy".[ASIN:B0059XTTW8 Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy]] I am a lay person who sympathizes with the thoughts that Mr Isacoff expresses in,The Afterword, of this book. It is impossible to satisfy everyone. Is it really possible to reach what we think of as perfection, or is perfection different to each of us? Just as I suspect perception might be different to each of us.

A charming story with a good mystery, centered around the start of MIT.  The first class enters into a mystery of someone, who is it... destroying Boston?  Who did it, becomes very interesting, just when you think you know who, it switches to another culprit.    A novel with some real names in it, a picture of the times,.  You can hear the horses feet as they clip clop through Boston, you can sympathize with the first and only female student at MIT.

Travel across the country

  We went out for a weekend drive, last weekend.  Of course we decided to continue because my husband wanted to go to the car events in Scottsdale, Arizon.  So, I have been quiet, as we drove along thru our beautiful country.  The beauty of the landscape, desert, bayou, mountains and more, always amazes us.  Listening to Siriously Sinatra all the way. thinking about music and listening.  The cars were fabulous as usual, and the prices were very high .  We had a great time expect to be home tomorrow. so I can catch up on my love of music.

Now, to me this is an example of a song that is able to make it beyond the cartoon movie.   It has no universal appeal in my book, other than it fits the movie..what makes it interesting is that the arrangment and the voice, allow it to be marketable, but I would not pick it for a major hit, would you?
