Margaret Mead a wonder woman to me as a teen
Before I knew I was going to go to college and some day be a school teacher , I was curious about us, as people and how we learn. Margaret Mead was wonderful, in those years of "finding the light" when I was learning to learn how to learn. Yes, I even read normal books that normal people read, then and I still do, but curiosity about why we are here, where we are headed, and what we are in the universe, never leaves me. I have an inner drive that says, this looks good, lets explore what that person has learned. Will I discover the mystery and answers to the eternal questions? So if you also have that inner curiosity, here is Margaret Mead....a wonder woman to me when I was a teen. Her studies were challenged by another and damaged her reputation, but in the long light of life, she opened doors, thought us to think and deserves respect for her long career and another look at whether her challenger was correct in his observations or not. I wonder why someone would work so hard to discredit the work of another, unless it was blatantly wrong and harmful!
My thanks to Margaret Mead for leading me to question , to keep learning, to keep the challenge of life exciting...In her day doors did not open willingly for women, that was another obstacle she overcame.

Just finished reading this very interesting book, and again, maybe I am off beat in my reviews, but my thoughts can't help it...At the end of the book the author is looking back, at the outcome of the study having his own natural human thoughts. He makes a statement that there are so many helpful not harmful new drugs coming out. Immediately that is the warning sign for me. For it is my guess, and of course only my guess, that our bodies face new dangers with drugs. ( Example the Testostorone drugs being sold like candy right now and immediately following their release lawyers ads swarm, "Were you damaged?")
The history of the world has shown that even ancient people reserved the use of drugs to their Shamans and their decisions on how to give them to the populace. The advent of licensed doctors is another way of looking at the use of drugs., and treatments for our human problems. In no way am I proselytizing for a side, just stating what I thought of as I read the book. So, if you like to read, learn , think about and consider, this is a great way to achieve that goal. The results of the tests and the statements about science, like light interference allowing parellel worlds to clash/co-incide,overlap, is very good thought material. I read books to solve mysteries they contain, and look for clues to tie ideas together, this makes a book like this very interesting to me. You are probably wondering or guessing by now, I am not a drug user, never experimented and always felt that drugs should be used as the last resort. My philosophy is stay as natural to nature as possible. This book was easy to read. I enjoyed the presentation and the disclosures that we all have to think about, when we journey into the worlds of drugs. How do they make us feel, are they worth it to us as individuals and to society. (The use of anti-biotics, has given rise to a super strain of bacteria, that requires more and stronger new anti-biotics?) One interesting observation was that some of the folks in the study, who had used recreational drugs before DMT, decided they no longer were interested in recreational drugs, and wanted to enjoy life as it was laid out for them to experience without any more drug use. The Buddhist group that the author belonged to, felt that the drug study should stop While the author mentions ways of taking drugs, in crowds at a concert to experience humanity or in a beautiful setting with friends to get a great "high" and glimpse of other worlds, I think, why? So much of the unseen can be reached through natural channels, meditation, vicariously through reading and dreaming, etc. Yes, I know we all can not do that, but there have been many ways to treat illness and disability through the centuries, not all of us can be treated without the use of drugs, but on the other hand, is our society over prescribing drugs, because they reach the goal sooner? The mixed reactions of the tests attest to the fact that all our bodies are different and have different tolerances. Ritalin use comes to mind, and how anxious we were to use it, and now we find there are some problems developing because of the use, or is it the overuse of Ritalin. Margaret Mead a famous anthropologist of the past, studied how native populationsSex and Temperament: In Three Primitive Societies of the South Pacific would treat sexual problems . ( I had to guess at which one of her books I was reading those many years ago. This is what I recall of that book, the natives had a hut that people visited when they had sexual needs that could not be satisfied by their partner. It was accepted that anyone could go to the hut, and have sex with anyone they chose to have sex with in the hut. Would we do that and accept that as a short cut to solving sexual problems? Lastly, what else drove me to this book? It was a vision I shared with a Catholic Sister at the death bed of my mother. What could have caused this? Why would we both have seen and experienced the same vision? The release of DMT was a possibility, but how and why both of us? The interference of light of course, that allowed us to have a shared vision, is the first thing I recognized, however, the DMT had to be released from the pineal gland, and what mechanism could have done that to both of us at the same time. Our vibrating bodies, had to have a step up in vibration ? What could cause the normal vibrations of our bodies to step up to a higher vibration so we would experience the same vision? These are the questions and I learned answers as I read this book. This is one of the questions I am trying to find an answer for.....maybe you too, would like to know what we are doing in society to create an increase in Autism. My personal unproven opinion is that drug use, oxycontin, for example has increased and there is possibly a link to drug use, by future parents to the increase in Autism. Is anyone studying this?
The future or our children is in our hearts, we need to find what we are doing wrong, and correct it, so an induced visit to "inner worlds" with drug use does not create damaged children committed to a hell on earth. ( if this is in fact leading us to more damaged children)

I love history and the mysteries of history. The mysterious Druids who are alive in the folklore of Western Europe came into reality suddenly, as I spent a week or two in their world,engrossed in this book. Did the Roman conquerors try to paint the Celts and Druids as barbarians, when in truth they had a high civilization? Scholars still debate what is the truth, since the written records, are sparse. The Celts/ Druids memorized their learning over a period of 20 years and a life time. So the discovery of evidence of their civilization is often 5 centuries or more too old to really know the truth!
According to this book, the Druids put a religious prohibition on committing any knowledge to writing, since they did not want it to fall into the wrong hands.The author suggests Druid ties in music and in parellel caste to Indian society and the Brahmins of the Hindu culture. Kings could be Druids, but not all Kings were Druids.
As a result of the ban on writing down knowledge, when the Celtic beliefs were overcome by Christianity there was an outpouring of literature about the Celts ,(the hidden people). Irish became the third written European language. Our author recounts the many hospitals that grew up in Ireland, as a result of the repository of knowledge that had been recounted and written down by people wanting to share the ancient knowledge of the Druids. He even suggests an area of study made possible thru a treasure trove of information in the British Museum on medicine. Perhaps even some cures long forgotten might be found in this repository. Just the right bait for a doctoral student, or author?

My book review is from a different point of view... I was awakend to a civilization I could relate to, as my ancestors, who created roads, based on the heavens... long before the Romans . Yet, the stunner in this book for me was this! As I read in this book, the journey of Hannibal from Carthage thru North Africa, across the water to the End of the World and up the Herackles Way, my DNA study came in from Ancestry.com. I happened to be looking at the map in this book and I thought how much it resembled my family map of DNA tracks. Voila! They were so alike I could not believe it! From my family DNA distant traces in Carthage across North Africa, to the Iberian Penninsula, into Lombardy and to union with the middle Europeans, there was history in my DNA staring me right back in the face. Talk about a "Wow" moment for people that love history, like me! I enjoyed the book very much and wondered as I read it, about the tall Italians in my family, that are 6 feet 4 inches, and more when there are so many Italians I know that are not really towering around that height. Then I learned that the Etruscans were very tall of Greek and Italian heritage, and inhabited Lombardy, where the major part of my ancestry is. So another puzzle of history seemed to find a place.
The other discovery this book opened for me was the rich lives of the Celts and Druids and how many of us who have Middle European and North Italian blood have to be descended from them with traces of the Orient in our blood. We are truly one people! At one point in life, I had given the Celts to the Irish alone,but this book pointed out that the Celts were from the Black Sea always heading toward the setting sun, pushed to Britain and over to Scotland and Ireland by the invading Romans. The Celts did not have a written history, and it was finally in Ireland, that some of the Celtic knowledge got written down...( and was it Scotland too?) I liked the book so much that I picked up another to read, on the same subject. I may be mixing up what came from each book, because though they were both about the Celts, they dove tailed so nicely that I was living in Middle Earth for a few weeks.The Druids This book is available for one cent here on Amazon and imagine the fun I had reading it too! |
