music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Vaughn Monroe - Riders in the Sky - 1965 concert performance

Yes this was the hit for Vaughn Monroe, our own local star in those days

Roy Clark - Ghost Riders In The Sky

what do you think of this oldie, I think it was a Vaughn Monroe song, and he may have belted it out at the Meadows in Framingham in the long ago....was the class of 1952 the last to have its prom at the Meadows?

patsy cline someday you'll want me to love you

How about a little Patsy Cline with her unusual voice...and her great styling.

Jo Stafford I'll Walk Alone

It was such a time, you can hear the emotion of the time, and her voice was perfect.

Natalie Cole I Wish You Love

If communication between dimensions is possible, then this is my answering song....isn't it beautiful...Who knows what is and isn't....Dr Lanza of Harvard is our best bet.   I mention him in my books, you can google him if interested in his theory that when we die we can choose again from a staircase of life experiences.

Bobby Darin - Through a Long and Sleepless Night (1959)

I woke up this morning to hear this song in my mind....do you believe in other dimensions?  I am reading Brian Weiss new book about his experiences with regression, past lives, repeating lives,  I will post that reveiw soon.

Eric Clapton - Layla (Unplugged)

Ah, peace...it ached so bad I had to find it the one way , the only way, this is language of the Gods, even if not Jazz!  Even this slow version.....don't you agree?

Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton - Layla

Blues lovers, surprise!  Wynton Marsalis took over the reins of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and he is doing a great job, according to Sunday New York Times, page 22 AR.  Now he has enveloped Eric Clapton in the language of the Gods, as Clapton  describes jazz...   what do you think of the slow New Orleans version...it works as Clapton says.....but...being a Clapton lover...I ache for his fast version of the song.  I appreciate this version...but the aching is too strong....I need to go there...

New college course ideas Know anyone who can fly with this?

In this day of so many misleading articles on the news, whether in TV reporting by cutting short a report, or in print, by personalizing the article to fit the writer's leanings....it occurred to me that college courses would be very beneficial to our future as a nation by dissecting articles, book reviews, play reviews, to teach students the difference between good reviews and bad reviews.   Another point is to understand an opinion article versus a factual article.
We need to bring back factual reporting instead of reporting with bias, and clearly identify for the public the difference between suppostion and facts.

What really bothers me is that the public has to be on guard for truth in advertising, yet political campaigns have no such restriction.   Our country deserves more than that....why are there laws for one group and not others....?  Maybe we need to have the colleges start dissection of the laws ....in the law schools, since no one else seems to be interested in reviewing the laws on the books and removing, updating, or consolodating them.

A review of the benefits of our elected politicians, and the spending they do for public projects, pork barrel etc., would be a great challenge for courses in college .  How to become a purposeful politician, what changes need to be made so that everyone in Washington goes back to work for the people and not for re-election?

Oh well, what do I know! Maybe you can run with this if you are teaching school, what great fun classes you would have even on the high school level.  A whole semester of learning integrated in charts, analytics of how misleading the public affects public opinion.  Words that sting and words that are smooth...imagine!  Then try to get published in opinion and review columns even if in your own school...and get feedback.

THE BLUE DAHLIA TRAILER 1946 ALAN LADD NOIR

A sneak peek at an old film.  I don't know about you, but I like Film Noir....explore and find some good ones..

Watts plays Rachmaninoff Corelli Variations (2/2)

To me this is breath taking!  The piano announces, pauses......trickles, pauses, bursts into a rainstorm of sound and color in my mind...gets quiet...have fun in your mind as you enjoy this wonderful Rachmaninoff piece by Watts.  He is appearing December 11 at 7:30  in New York...check out the arts section of the New York Times today...

Andre Watts Chopin Etude op.25 no.1 & "Revolutionary" Etude

Here is a great pianist of our day, as the piano flows like liquid....Compare Beegie Adair who is not a classical pianist, and her style of liquid playing....interesting isn't it?

Marvin Gaye - Lets Get It On

Oops, I gave you Marvin Gaye and then said Sam Cooke...it must be too early...in the morning....here is the sound, that I compare to the sound Amy gives us...in some of her hits...I love her band...  where are they hiding?

Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game

Here is another song, that has the background band sound I am trying to identify...not quite....are you with me?

The Four Aces - Tell Me Why (1951)

The seniors ruled the high school when this song came out....and we juniors stood by in awe of them.  In those days we were in what is now a museum next to the police station downtown Framingham.  Our girls room was in the basement and music was piped into the room.  This record and its flip side , Garden in the Rain, where played and I never forgot that scene as the music froze it in my mind forever.

I donated some copies of my book, Small Town America, Framingham, to Framingham History Center so if you go carolling on Sunday on the common at Framingham Center, you will be able to buy a copy.  All proceeds from the sale go to the Framingham History Center.

Teach Me Tonight - Jo Stafford

Jo Stafford has a great intro here, the sound of her voice its pitch and tone are perfect for this song!  Love the drag sound of the band..horns are great to fill in the painting the song makes ...aren't they?  You must agree, the two versions Jo and Amy are both terrific , each in their own way!

Teach Me Tonight-The DeCastro Sisters

A lovely version of the song....but I still choose Jo Stafford and Amy Winehouse as the two best versions.  Can we tie them, or say they win each in their own way.  I choose the latter!

Amy Winehouse - Teach Me Tonight (Live At Jools Holland 2005)

Looking for some of the comparisons that I spoke about with the back up band, and fell on this again.  Looked at some of the comments, and guess what...I too loved the Jo Stafford version, who didn't, but you can sink right into the Amy Winehouse version too...they are just great interpretations by different artists...now I have to go check the De Castro sisters who it says on the comments recorded this first...

Amy Winehouse - You know I'm no good. Live in London 2007

Love her band....and listening for the similarities with Marvin Gaye
