Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal,from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Book : The Lost Language of Plants

The Lost Language of Plants: The Ecological Importance of Plant Medicines for Life on Earth (Paperback)

Wonderful explanation of what we have lost and what I have been slowly learning from life experience. On a road trip or two to the West Coast from the East Coast, I noticed the smell of cattle farms so intense it could be smelled for miles, and noticed that the grass was all trampled and the fields were mud. I grew up in a long ago time and know pastures smell, but the grass was never destroyed, because there was enough land for all the cattle, as you see it in Florida, but out west.....no.
In the East you need an acre per animal per the zoning, for a horse for example.

I wonder if our treatment plants are able to remove drugs with tertiary treatment, I wonder if we have double checked, and I wonder if we could find a way to prevent drugs from entering the soil thru septic system protections....????

If you think about herbal medicine, and requirements, you understand that it is easier to take a pill and forget your problem, but that appears to be part of the problem. There was a time when everyone thought, take a pill for everything, but now as I read this book, it appears that many of us are awakening to the facts of nature, and how to live more harmoniously with nature.

As a former teacher, I realize we teach the materialistic world, ignoring the world of plants and nature, as the author states, even the Native Indian children are losing the knowledge of the elders, and ....it is sad.

This is a book that holds your interest, and I know because I was reading a fictional adventure at the same time, and I have not finished it, in fact, I may not finish it, even with good reviews, it can not hold me, as this book did.

We have a responsibility to clean up the messes we are making and this book is a good start to awareness. Just this past week the EPA regulated again, with distance from dry streams, being increased....instead of doing something about actually cleaning up the effluent.

I intend to read other books by this author, his style of writing is good, he is interesting and I love learning from him.

This week I read about a symposium of scientists who are talking about meshing materialistic science with non matierialistic science for a better view of what the world actually is....Great news!

Movie Mission to Moscow

This movie was on TV early morning today. It gives a picture of the times and contrasts a polite society with behind the scene intrigue leading to the Second World War. I liked the glimpse of society, of friendships that would have to be put on the shelf , as war became a reality, it was food for thought,

I recalled the conversations I heard between Mom and Dad and news I read or listened to with Mom and Dad as the story unfolded and gave form to the memories and feelings of the time that we Americans harbored.

The parrellels with rabble rousers in this country and other parts of the world are so evident ! Is free speech intended to incite Terrorism really something we should be proud to welcome?

Just think of the hate for Jane Fonda and the cries of Traitor against her. I wonder, how does this contrast with the hate speeches we hear today on our soil that create venom against the innocent population?

The thoughts of history repeating itself come alive in the words of Roosevelt in this long ago film, in speaking of Russia, "if we give them Lend Lease then they have it after it's over". History repeating itself!

I was impressed with Ambassador Davies and his work to convince the Allies that we should trust Russia, in order to win this war. It was a brave uphill battle on all fronts for him

Watch the film , and if you pay attention you will be lost in time

Abstract

Artemisinin is a chemical compound that reacts with iron to form free radicals which can kill cells. Cancer cells require and uptake a large amount of iron to proliferate. They are more susceptible to the cytotoxic effect of artemisinin than normal cells. Cancer cells express a large concentration of cell surface transferrin receptors that facilitate uptake of the plasma iron-carrying protein transferrin via endocytosis. By covalently tagging artemisinin to transferrin, artemisinin could be selectively picked up and concentrated by cancer cells. Futhermore, both artemisinin and iron would be transported into the cell in one package. Once an artemisinin-tagged transferrin molecule is endocytosed, iron is released and reacts with artemisinin moieties tagged to transferrin. Formation of free radicals kills the cancer cell. The authors have found that artemisinin-tagged transferrin is highly selective and potent in killing cancer cells. Thus, artemisinin and artemisinin-tagged iron-carrying compounds could be developed into powerful anticancer drugs.
