music, thoughts, books, dreams, more

Just my world of dreams, music and thoughts. Author of two books, one a novel of Love stories set in Framingham, Mass, Secrets of the Heart the 2nd book an autobiography of growing up in Framingham, Mass. Small Town America, Framingham My generation was the first teenage generation, that was when the word was coined. Ours was the generation that started cruising through town and to the drive in theater and drive in restaurant. In our area, Ernie Kampersal, from Holliston, drove his bucking car through town, picking up girls. It rose in the air, like a stallion! We went to the soda shops and played the juke boxes. It was a different town, a different time, and it belonged to us!

Cherokee Nation-Paul Revere and The Raiders

another big song from the past

Please; Mr Custer

Ha ha, this was a big hit

Sonny James - Running Bear

Remember this one, even Pat Boone sang it...although it says Sonny James, it sounds to me like Pat "Boone

Guy Mitchell - Singing the blues (1956).mpg

 more of 50's greats

Johnny Mathis - It's Not For Me To Say (Original Stereo)

Back in 1957, this was the love song that played on car radio's, portable cassette radio at the beach or picnics.  Johnny Mathis hey day!

I don't know how to love him

Here is a school girl with the same song that the great artists are doing, uninfluenced on the emphasis, and her vocal quality is much better at the lower scale for the song....do you agree?  But, then ...what do I know....I just think there is potential here.

Elaine Paige - I don't know how to love him

this is interesting, because of all the versions, hers is the least harsh....listen to the start...."I don't know how to LOVE him"  her love is tempered it is not harsh, but i fyou listne to Hellen reddy and others, they emphasize the love and it is too shrill in the start.

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) (11HQ) I Dont Know How To Love Him (((Ste...

When this movie came out over 30 years ago, it was shocking to some, and to some sacrilegious.  I wondered why we could not appreciate it, for it did not change the story , it just presented it , in the future, as artists often depicted  scenes of the crucifixion in the era in which they painted.  The creativity and some of the music was spectacular.  I did not like all the ties to modernity, but, I appreciated the film, and especially this song.

Dreams: wisdom, power, insight, magic, mystery, sincerity

Doors are opened into secrets through dreams and the magic of what happens as you near death, and life review.  A peek into the quantum world that is coming our way, as we begin to  understand the magic of life, sound and light.  See if you agree with me on my Chapter on the Resurrection, in my first novel, Secrets of the Heart, available at Amazon.

The Tibetan Rainbow Body & the Christian Resurrection

The Tibetan Rainbow Body & the Christian Resurrection  I have written about this before in past blogging.  I can't recommend it high enough on your learning curve.   I gasped when I  first read  Father Tiso, because his studies are fantastic.  I was always suspecting that light has / had something to do with our impressions of the world, I felt vindicated in my experience, as I read it and it motivated the chapter on the Resurrection in my book, Secrets of the Heart

The Age of the Unthinkable: Why the New World Disorder Constantly Surprises Us And What We Can Do About It (Hardcover)
I particularly liked the ideas of mash up, and the music reference, since we have done that in the past with Moonglow/Picnic, which is beautiful. I appreciated being introduced to the Grey Album and its mash up idea, however, it never compares to Moonglow/Picnic. My thought led me to Eminem, and how wonderful a mash up with his rhythm and a great song would be.

Truly, I agree that we have to be resiliant, and people that have trouble buying a home because of many reasons, should be renters, to allow them the freedom to move to an area where they can get a job, if need be. This points out the danger of the Government wanting everyone to own a home. It is not necessarily right...another reason for our Government to get out of our lives.

Every decision we make causes a reaction, are we ready for that reaction, have we thought out what could, might happen, it is going to happen. Just like government employee contracts, during the good times, the unions can negotiate great deals, but no one ever thinks about the downside in Government, so the contracts are not tied to the up and down of the market. This is where the problem lies. A business can function by adjusting to ups and downs in a market, unless it has union contracts, for the same reason. We never think ahead, and put in our contracts that this is the deal, as long as we are making an income of such and such....

A good book for thinking and coming to conclusions about life .

Joni James - Star Eyes

which version is your favorite?  I did not put up Anita 0'Day, because the tempo is too fast for this song, in my opinion.  Joni James gets an A, and what voice can do this justice today?

Art VanDamme - Star Eyes

Star Eyes with the mellow tone of the accordion, how long has it been since we have had a star with the accordion?  Does anyone learn the instrument anymore?

Helen O'Connell - Star Eyes.

hoping someone will find this song to be great for their voice...would love to see this back playing on the airwaves all day..

Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra & Chorus - So Rare (Original)

When I first heard this song I  thought how wonderful it was, little did I know it was the swan song for the big bands...???  Isn't it wonderful!

Sinatra 80th- Live in Concert - Angel Eyes-13

notice the vocal difference in performances,

Angel Eyes

You can melt into this version of course with the great Frank Sinatra, and fantastic Nelson Riddle. It reaches down deep inside, a brave hesitant version....

Chet Baker - Angel Eyes

these are some good comparisons, on Angel Eyes.

sting angel eyes

Sting, makes this a song of longing....you wait for the next word/sound

This Time The Dreams On Me

Comparing, Julie London 's voice and arrangement to suit her voice, she gets an A, while June Christy gets an A for this arrangment

Julie London Angel Eyes

Her husky voice always made me think of Chris Connor, this is probably another song for K.D. Lang

Lena Horne - Moanin' Low

Lena does a nice job with this version.

Moanin' Low - Harry James. From 'Young Man with a Horn' (1950)

Harry James, wow, this song fits his style.

Billie Holiday - Moanin' Low

today, I was thinking of this song....wonder if K. D. Lang would fit this song...???

Imelda May Band - How High The Moon

In Framingham , Mass, we would go to the Wellworth and play this song on the jukebox, with all the other great music of the 50's...did you know....we where the first Teens....as we know teens today....after the war, everything blossomed including teenagers...with cars!

Jeff Beck & Imelda May - Vaya Con Dios

what a nice tribute to Les Paul and Mary Ford, they gave us so much enjoyment!

Imelda May - Walking After Midnight

was looking for Jeff beck and found Imelda May, sounds good

The Manhattan Transfer - Tuxedo Junction

Just feel like this today!

Anne Murray - Rain

Jose Feliciano does this very well, but, I happen to like Anne Murray's voice for this song.  It is just an example of picking songs for your voice.

Jose Feliciano - Since I Fell For You

Love the song and love his version of it, not everyone fits every song but this is right for him.  Time to bring this song back, with a beautiful arrangement and a great singer.

Whispering Grass - Gene Miller and The Ink Spots

Interesting, the arrangement is different  , is it a different band, or just experimenting with a different version?

Freddie Cole Whispering Grass

Wow!  He sounds like Nat , his brother...nice arrangement

The Platters - WHISPERING GRASS by Paul Roby

Nice version by the Platters, this reminds me to Billie Eckstein

The Ink Spots - Whispering Grass, 1940

Great time to release a version of this again, now that everyone is falling in love with it because of the Dow Commercial....it is a wonderful song.

The Vidal Brothers -Oldies Medley: Blue Moon, We Belong Together

This is a great version , Doo Wop style.

Mel Torme - Blue Moon

Can't resist, this is one of my  very favorties...slow, with pauses, that call for the next note....it showcases his voice, it resonates with music lovers, the horn sound is gentle, the orchestra is a gentle waterfall of melody, nice arrangment.  but, then Mel Torme was always one of my favorite singers, he could do no wrong.

Steve and Mel TormƩ Scat Duo

Teaming up is good...this is great, Steve and his Dad, one of the greatest, Mel Torme

Moonglow / Theme From Picnic By Morris Stoloff

This is one of the best mashups, ever...a good singer has to find the right arranger for his voice, someone that can hear the the mashup songs...some one that can guide the singer.  My best example is Frank Sinatra, before and after Nelson Riddle.  Any Winehouse with her band...grab that band!

Eminem - "Lose Yourself" Official Music Video

Turn around the rap lyrics and use the beat...that is the key, can we do it!

Taylor Swift - Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and Uncle Kracker's "Smile" Gran...

Eminem has great virtuosity, and I would like to see him take his creativity to mash up with some outstanding non rap artists...Taylor could have really hit it, using Eminem behind a song that fits  it...

Andrea Bocelli -Solamente Una Vez-

Andrea is true to his inner rhythm, no matter what he sings, in Italian, or otherwise.  You Belong to My Heart, the English title might be a hit for someone today, the song is incredibly beautiful.

Light My Fire - Jose Feliciano (Doors)

this morning I am focusing on musicians with sight disability, because they are great artists and they exemplify their inner harmony and rhythm so easy.  Blind lead the blind, isn't it true?  Jose Feliciano just does it for me in all his recordings....doesn't he reach you...?

STEVIE WONDER- ISN'T SHE LOVELY

This song blew me away when it hit the air ....listen to the inner beat, harmony and love in this from the vocals to the melody.  It is true artistry on display, simple beat, simple melody he is on track with this song.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Ray Charles

Our senses are so important, that when a person can not see they become more attuned to sound.  Ray Charles, is an example of pacing, that does not kill a song, but rather lets it long for the next note...think about it...and listen to the pacing.

Lionel Richie "Tuskegee" Album Teaser (Out 3/26/12)

I love what I heard of this on Fox and Friends First, today.  His choice of singing duets, and his voice.  He is comfortable in his shoes.
Wonderful!

AL MARTINO - TILL

Another popular singer from many years ago....ideas

Moonglow--Jimmy Forrest

You can tell he is comfortable, and you can hear his inner rhythm, listen to more...I have posted his Night Train before, he is consistent with his inner beat....

The Great Caruso, Ave Maria Gounod

Gorgeous , lush singing, even if you don't believe..... this song should make you feel like it could be true, that we are spirtiual beings practicing learning love in all its many facets,  on earth.

Mario Lanza Because

when Mario Lanza ruled the airwaves with his magnificent voice, everyone sang along with songs like this....we hummed and sang this song for months, and maybe years...

Mario Lanza - Be My Love

It was 1950 and this song swept thru the airwaves, playing all day on the radio...Mom's sang it with their Victrolas playing over and over.....just as the songs of today ripple through society.  Imagine the grandeur of this song, the voice was spectacular, who can do this for us today?

Elvis Presley - I`ll Remember You (Lisa Marie) Studio Dub

this is a song worth trying again...

Madeleine Peyroux - Dance Me To The End Of Love

I would love to see  James Torme try this song...

James Torme "Rock With You"

I want to see James Torme make it.  When you have a father who is fabulous to follow, you have to find your own place, and this is a beginning.  I think you need to  keep trying different sounds, you are getting there.  Notice in this version the voice is similar to Michael Jackson, not because it is Michaels song, but the timbre and the pitch are similar....try more songs that lend themselves to that sound, or try something  like   Unforgettable ...with Natalie and Nat King Cole....or try Etta James, At Last,   try singing with Tony Bennett...  I happen to like KD. Lang best when she sings with Tony Bennett...try Blue Moon with them.  Love to see you become as big as Mel Torme.  Rooting for you.  Hope you don't mind my crazy ideas!

Santana - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

This is one of my favorite songs by George Harrison,  in this version, I like the sound of Yo Yo Ma with the guitar

To Heaven and Back

To Heaven and Back, by Dr. Mary  C. Neal, MD

3.4 out of 5 stars (24)
Paperback $8.97

29 used & new from $8.75

I sympathize with Dr. Neal, I read some of the reviews so I could see if it was troublesome to some reviewers.  It is difficult to write about a miraculous happening, because it is often looked at as an untrue account, or an account that leaves suspicion, as some of the reviews indicate. People find it hard to believe that something like this could happen to another person.
I cried for three days, before I was able to deal with the miraculous event in my life.  I too, chose to only talk about it first with family and close friends, then like Dr. Neal felt compelled to write about it.  However, I did not have the courage to write about it in a true story, so I buried it in my first novel.  I too experienced the click of a shutter, a special light and a sense of being out of time when the miracle occurred.
It had to be difficult for Dr. Neal a doctor to risk her reputation.  She was clear in stating that she was not that religious and she was also clear in her commitment to science.  I too felt that the liberal slant that came up was not necessary to the story, however, it was and is part of her life.
The important value of this book is that it happened to her, just as it happened to me, and in my case, I had the adventure in a miracle at my Mother's bedside, with a Catholic Nun.  All three of us participated in the miracle.  So, I speak with a strong voice that I believe Dr. Neal and know that she would not risk her reputation to print a book about something that is not true, to her life.
After something like this happens to you, you automatically know that the voice inside you that told you since a child, that there was more to life than you could see, is the true voice.  You do not need to speak for a specific religion, or a specific environmental or political belief, the message is clearly LOVE, as she sees it and as I see it from my experience.  If we all know that is the message, we will act appropriately as the thread in the tapestry acts to hold the hologram together.   In my case I have come to the belief that light is what contributes to the play we are acting out in matter, all for the growth of LOVE , in our everlasting souls.  I appreciated the similarity of light, the click sound and the feeling of knowing LOVE to be the most important.  This book could help so many people recognize that their time on earth, each way, in every day, is critical to their personal growth.  I highly recommend this book for friends, relatives and neighbors that need a step up the ladder of life.

Django Reinhardt J'attendrai Swing

How beautiful, his inner rhythm found in  gypsy music, it must be in all of us, because this reaches into our souls....keep looking, listening, find your inner muse....listen to the sounds of the planets on YouTube and ...listen to great artists...

Louis Armstrong - Blue Moon

Love this arrangement by Louis Armstrong, maybe it is something to try...with vocals

tony bennett - night and day

Just thought I would throw in the Tony Bennett version, for  good comparisons....KD Lang with Tony Bennett is great, but she needs to find her muse....when she records alone.

Night And Day (Frank Sinatra - 1957 with Lyrics)

Listen to the difference in the presentation , voice and orchestra....

"Night And Day" Frank Sinatra

Frank is great, but, the voice is not resounding.....the Nelson Riddle arrangment makes the whole thing blaze...I will post that next.

Blue Moon - Tony Bennett

Michael Buble, reminds me of a cross between Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra.....wonder if Michael ever did this song....have to look.

Neil Sedaka - Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (Slow Version)

As an artist, maybe using this song, to see what you feel when you sing it slow, and when you sing it fast, will help you find your true inner beat...  What feels right for you?
Listening to artists and trying to sing in their tempo ...where are you off,  are you too slow, too fast, are you behind the beat, or ?  What is right for you will come to you as you practice.  The change in Frank Sinatra is so tremendous, before Nelson Riddle and after Nelson Riddle...just find the examples for yourself on YouTube, they are so obvious. Personally, I think that Amy Winehouse had a perfect band, and if I was a singer, I would try and work with her band.  But, then I am not an expert, I just listen to and love music.

Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka

there are two versions, and you can hear the inner rhythm of Neil in both versions...here is one...

Carly Simon Nobody Does It Better Cover By Marina Berry -'The Spy Who Lo...

Carly Simon, writes and sings songs that are for her, this is the best example of a song for Carly.  In side of each of us is an inner rhythm, our senses interpret the world by that rhythm and respond to it, in kind.  Another example .listen to Frank Sinatra, before Nelson Riddle, then listen to him with Nelson Riddle,  what a difference.  Nelson Riddle brought him to the right rhythm.  Amy Winehouse, is another example, the band that backed her had the right beat for Amy.  Some people know their rhythm, and some people need to have a band find it for them.  .

Eddie Palmieri & Tito Puente: Newport Jazz Festival Interview with Bill...

Beniamino Gigli - Non Ti Scordar Di Me

Here is a rich voice from the past singing this song.  Probably one of the best solo male versions of the song.

Pavarotti - Non ti Scordar di me (Central Park Concert)

Great Italian music I learned in my childhood

Three Tenors 2001 - Parlami d'amore Mariu - Pavarotti et al

Another version , gorgeous music

Parlami d'amore Mariù

In Framingham we had a program called the Italian Hour, run by Pearl Oliva and her father, who founded the program  and this was a song that I heard often , as my mother sang along with it on the radio

This Nearly Was Mine - Howard Keel

Kismet had wonderful music

And I Love You So with Lyrics - Don McLean

Another beautiful memory

"La mer" - Mantovani

One of my favorites by Montovani

MANTOVANI - CHARMAINE

Montovani was very popular and deserved it, just listen to the beauty of his presentation here.

Till Then

Once upon a time, I thought that the great groups, the great songs would never die, and maybe they won't ...I noted that they used my favorite ...Whispering Grass, in a train commercial recently

THE CHIMES ONCE IN A WHILE

they had a great hit with this song...and it puts me back in time to my teenage home

Duprees - (It's No) Sin

This was a wonderful song of the 50's?  Or was it earlier?  Long forgotten, but a great song to revive

Beyond The Blue Horizon - The Hit Paraders

A wonderful old song, long forgotten

A moment Like this

Diane, we love you on Fox
Business, and love your voice , what a wonderful career in front of you

How Far Is Heaven-Los Lonely Boys lyrics HQ

one of my favorites

Tiny Tim

Can you imagine, his popularity  ?

Just slow the tempo down, and it becomes much more pleasant, less tinny and 20's sounding...

Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra - I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise (1922)

To me, this was always the sound of the 1920's on Mom's Victorla that needed to be cranked, when we placed the big black 78 shellac record on ity.

It Started With ‘Genome’ - ‘Omes’ Proliferate in Science - NYTimes.com
