Charlie "Bird" Parker - I Can't Get Started

the first time I heard this song, I was probably 16 years old, and it burned into my song memory for life. Bunny Berrigan played it, and his version is always the best to me, but this is a great version. Ella sang it too!

Woody Guthrie- This Land Is Your Land

this is what Woody Guthrie wrote, to give us another song of pride in our land.

Kate Smith introduces God Bless America

The song that swept the country during the second world war. It was such a popular song that Woody Guthrie wrote a song to combat it, he was so sick of hearing it.   From my new book, out in about two months," Enchantment" , how and why my generation became some of the greatest patriots ....we had the tears in our hearts and souls for the boys who went to war, and can never forget that time.

Wow, no wonder the trio of books sold like wild fire....this guy writes a very intricate plot, that convolutes and straightens and twists and turns again.  Great writer that will glue you to your chair, and you might even start skimming to find out quickly what is going to happen next....

‪The EGYPTIAN (1954) 1 - Hermetic Winged Disc Akhenaton Cinema‬‏ - YouTube

The movie is being re released this year, and if you want a preview of it, here it is.  I loved it when I was young, have not read it or seen it in years.

Vacationing for about 10 days

Took a trip along the St Lawrence Seaway, it was a nice trip, not alot of traffic, beautiful scenery, especially when we got down to Rt 20 alternate and headed west through farm country to Derby, New York.  I started reading again, finally, writing is taking up so much time, that my reading had slackened off,  I finished Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert easy reading, and now The Girl Who Played with Fire  by Stieg Larsson, (complicated by unfamiliar names), but a plot that is so intricate you can't wait to turn the page and find out what the 'heck' is going on.  Love it and looking forward to finishing it this week.

Then, I will publish my second book called, Enchanted,   A memoire of growing up in the 1940's and 1950's .  How in the world did our parents keep us in a state of childhood enchantment while a war raged around us for 4 plus years til most of the world was on fire!  I am scared and excited, because I think, who am I to write ?  But on the other hand why not, I have a story to tell, and maybe some of you will like my story telling.

Your mind can keep you well

Your mind can keep you well  This is an interesting article.  I have read many reports and studies of this.  I have used radical prayer myself.  What harm does it do to pray?  Also, I have always believed that reading is a big help, especially for personal problems, finding out how others have survived cruel events in their lives, is sometimes just enough medicine to help one overcome what seems insurmountable.
The battle is not always what you see on the surface, such as disease, but , it is how you deal with it.  Some famous well respected people overcame alchoholism, to reach fame and fortune, while others can not seem to crawl out of the hole they dug themselves into.  The why of the question is always there, how can we help others to find their own way is probably the most perplexing question in life, and always on my mind, I guess it makes one a positive thinker to think that there has to be a way to help others find their way through severe life problems.  I prefer to remain positive, how about you?

Love wine, love mystery?

This book has great reviews,  and would be a good Christmas present, especially if you start early to buy and wrap, like I do.

Charlie Rich - The Most Beautiful Girl In The world

Country music was sneaking up on us. Anyone here on the East Coast who loved Country was called a Hillbilly, since this was originally called hillbilly music. One of the best songs of the past decades.

Engelbert Humperdinck - This Moment in Time

This song is terrific, I thought I had this by Johnny Mathis and Denise Williams, which I can not find anywhere.  I love the upbeat version of this.  You can still get it from Amazon

Ed Townsend - For Your Love (Original)

Tell me comon, this is a great song, bring back the oldies, they are eternal...I return to a moment in time, with this song, don't you?

American Bugatti Club Boston Dinner

Last night we met at La Voile a small French brasserie in Boston, to talk cars and restorations with the members of the club.  Thanks to Paul Sims, Tom Clifford, and others..  It was a wonderful night, with Tom's Bugatti parked out front, stealing all the attention away from the new Ferrari parked across the street.
If you want more on Bugatti cars, you can find lots of information on line and if you have a Bugatti and want to join the club, let me know.  If you haven't heard of the Veyron, here is some news.  It is so fast, that they test drive it with new potential buyers,( you guessed it), in our case, at the airfield, Amelia Island.
Howard said it was like being in an airplane, he could feel the g's.   We like the old ones that go fast, by our clock! 70 miles an hour keeps us happy.  The price of a new Veyron, is so high that I can't get enough of my breath to get up in that stratosphere, so here is a toy model, to keep you dreaming

Babe Soundtrack Mice sing Blue Moon Acapella

Here is a movie for the kids, that came to me this morning, because of my face off with the best Blue Moon male singers...

Ella Fitzgerald "Shiny Stockings"

This is the time for Ella to get us up and going.....wow!  I love this and Kenny always loved it...when he was 4 he would ride with me in the car to Florida, and Ella , sang this to him, he loved it...we played jazz all the way south and back...just Kenny and me, with the greatest sounds.  Maybe that is where he learned to love music of all genres, like I do
look at this price!  If you have a cassette radio, this is great and ....you can still buy the cassette radios,
This is the one I take with me, I love it  So, why do I bother with a cassette, because I can load the cassette with my old tapes, I even bought a player that plays cassettes, single 78's and old 45's too....just for the fun of being a teenager again.

Sometimes I forget how old I am, and head out with all the fire, smoke and spit of the young cowboys and cowgirls, only to be struck down by the attacking lion of old age.....in the first glimpse of the sun as I step out of the car and try to climb the stairs....oh darn!  I do better in the land of dreams, where i can run, and even fly through the air.....

Now, to find a new young body, to place this old brain in, and wow.....

Nat King Cole - Night Lights

what started the whole thing on listening to the different versions of Blue Moon, is this song. As I lay in bed the other morning, the tune came out of somewhere and started playing in my head. I knew it was my day for Nat King Cole. I loved this song, which carried me to Youtube and then Blue Moon....How great it is to be able to listen to different versions of the songs and then know what you need in your collection. I have most of these old songs on 78's and 45's

Chris Isaak - Besame Mucho

This is a good show case for his voice,

Rod Stewart Blue Moon

Listen to my favorite versions of this song, they are all great, and a special thank you to Rod Stewart for his revival of the classic songs of the past. We are waiting for yet, another, special recording of the old songs..... please Rod!

Blue Moon - Chris Isaak

Yet, another 'swooner', with a gentle yodel sound. Each artist has his own inner ear, and sound, I like each one I am posting in this comparison.  The albums are available, some reasonable

BLUE MOON - Nat King Cole

Just love this version ! A mix of sounds, and his heavenly voice, some doo wop sound in the back ground....

Tony Bennett - Blue moon Lyrics

Lets listen to the great male singers of this wonderful song.....do you think they corner the market? Imagine most were recording 50 years ago and the price of their records is pretty fair

Elvis Presley Wooden Heart (Muss I Denn)

Elvis, this weekend, and one of my favorites is this simple song, which I played over and over

One of the best books, and movies   Suspense and daring dominate.  I loved it.  A perfect way to spend the holiday weekend, with a good read.  This is why we love Tom Clancy

A book that you can not put down.  I read voraciously and span a number of genres.  This is perhaps one of the most incredible stories of heroism and the triumph of goodness over evil.  The reviews are fantastic, this will make you proud to be American.  A perfect purchase for Memorial Day weekend.

This is circulating in e=mail, great dancing, I agree, we may never see this again.  Here is the movie it came from Broadway Melody, 1940
Eleanor Powell: First Lady of Dance

The son of Eleanor Powell and Glen Ford has just written a book about his father, I link to that book here.

The Language of God, Francis Collins

This is a fabulous book, especially for those of us that have faith.  Richard Dawkins has gone against Collins , as have many other scientists and he is being shunned for writing this book.  Almost like the dark ages...???

THE GAYLORDS - FLAMINGO L'AMORE

The Gaylords songs are hard to find, great music arrangement, nice break in a busy day.

Peggy Lee: A Hundred Years From Today (Washington / Young) - Recorded No...

what a sound! Peggy Lee's best song in my opinion is "Lover." no one can present it the way she does. Her song selection was not the best for her voice, I would have loved to hear more songs that suited her husky sound, like Chris Connor.

STARS FELL ON ALABAMA (Jack Teagarden)

The great Jack Teagarden, jazz leader.

Glen Miller Video Biography (1992) part 1

This says it all, the outdoor dancing with the Glen Miller band, "At Last", it calls back an era, a time when we all gasped in recognition that our great band leader was lost on his way to entertain the troops. A time of tears, lets not forget!  My second book is in the works and I am attempting to put the feelings of the war time into words that allow those not alive to experience the mood, the way of life and how we thought and acted in those days.

G I Jive radio show with G I Jill - Program 2255 c.1950

Imagine a night with mist moving in , like it is in New England now. You are waiting for your loved one to come home from the war, or he is in a foreign country dreaming of you, listening to G I Jill or Tokyo Rose. Imagine the feelings, the emtions, the music even had this almost tinny quality.. but the emotions were the same into eternity.

come back to the era of the 2nd world war....

1940's music, The Ink Spots ruled the air waves, here is a medley is songs that set the mood of the country at the time. There were lots of love songs, songs of yearning for lost loves, like , "I cover the Waterfront". It was a time of heartbreak, that caused such anguish and intense feelings, that even as a child, I can recall the tears of the time.

Tata Motors to introduce Air Car – Is it the next big thing?

A vision inspired my book, Secrets of the Heart

About 15 years ago, when my mother lay dying, I shared a vision with her, and the Sister that was in charge of the nursing home. I cried for weeks, because I could not believe it, nor did I feel that I should be able to witness this magnificent gift.. Finally, I was motivated by various circumstances, beginning with a friend who kept telling me he was writing a book. He would ask, " Why don't you write a book?"

Since this was the most momentous event in my life, I spun a yarn around the event of my mother's death, and the death of my daughter Karen. It is a hopeful book for those that are dying, and for those that fear dying. It is a book of love, between man and woman, the self and God, told in dreams and visions, sprinkled with songs of the times, going back to the 1940's and 1950's.

Guy Mitchell - Singing The Blues (Live!)

Staying  up with  music,
Have you heard Marty Robbins sing this number?  Breeze over to his Youtube rendition, its good, but I still favor Guy Mitchell, I like the upbeat arrangement he has.

My heart stood still - Artie Shaw - 78rpm

I talk too much and the song is too far back, so savor the experience of growing up at the end of the 2nd world war and how the spirit of our country responded with the joy of jazz....this is fantastic.!  We all have something to contribute to the greatness of our country!

Next time you plan a trip to Florida, the Navy Seals Museum is a place that I enjoyed.  I was fascinated with the bravery and the training, I learned about at the museum.  There is a lot to do in the Ft Pierce area, many people are not aware of , like the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum that is also nearby.  A home we once owned in Florida, was donated to the museum, after purchase from us and now provides the office space for the museum.  It was moved from our site on Jupiter Island, by barge, up the river to it's new home, so the new owner of our property could build a new home.     .Marine Bioluminescence
