The spill, true compassion requires action!

 True leaders feel the suffering and spring into action, they are compassionate and empathetic.  Folks who consider themselves compassionate, understanding , loving, can not get stuck in the suffering it is enough to stop anyone in their tracks. Focus is required, focus on the problem, lifting the sorrow and suffering.

As I write this I hear talking heads on tv discussing the wealth of BP, and how they can get it.,  how they want investigations on unethical business, etc etc..The focus is wrong, now is not the time to call names, try to grab money and start investigations, now is the time for us to gather together and take action to stop the suffering and sorrow.  We need to team up with BP, and make this disaster go away from our people our shores!  Congress is demonstrating its inability to lead because they can not focus on what is necessary when it is necessary, and that is clean up and prevention, so people can have their lives back, now!

Take it on a small individual basis.  A child is drowning, you can be angry, complain  focus on the lack of parenting, concentrate on calling authorities, etc or you can jump in the water and save the child.  Action is the only need we have right now!

I agree with David DeCenzo . We should not boycott BP, they could go bankrupt and not pay any of the bills. They need money to make the reparations that will be enormous, do not punish those that are already suffering by being anxious to kill the perpetrator!  This is the true meaning of "turn the other cheek."  We need to support BP, so that they can be responsible for the damage.

 If Hannity can spotlight the different methods to clean spills in water, then why is our President and Congress not doing anything!  This is enormous, compared to Hurrican Katrina, why didn't we learn from that disaster the necessity of immediate action!

 It boils down to government versus private business once again.,  if Hannity has the answers, why hasn't Congress been discussing them and springing into action.

  What leadership emerged and what did not emerage and why?  What would a businessman have done if this was his shore that was going to be devastated?  You  would run home to secure your home when you heard  a hurricane was coming.  You board up windows, remove anything that could fly around the yard etc.  Nothing, was done, nothing!  That is the true heartbreak!  No preventive action was asked for from our people or considered by our Congress or our President, we waited for the company to figure it out while they tried to stop the break, and millions of gallons of oil spread on our shores.

 My feeling is that we will develop new technology and preventive measures from this disaster that will benefit all of us. Hannity had wonderful ideas submitted on his show, to clean the oil spill. With these proven ideas demonstrated on the show, we know that we can establish new safety measures, that includes hugh nets that can mop up spills. It is wonderful to see the innovation, and it is sad to see the slow response of our government to clean up as BP trys to cap the pipe.  We could have stopped the disaster from reaching our shores, and started the clean up.  Now Florida is waiting for the oil to travel to it's shores and nothing is being done to capture it before it does its damage.

  How can we move our Congress into action, what if this was an attack on our country? In retrospect, I wonder why Congress did not meet on the event immdediately and call for  protective action from our brilliant scientists, inventors, and the many working companies that could have stepped up and instituted protective measures immediately. Instead they are discussing possible penalties, fines and actions against a company overwhelmed with guilt and responsibility..  Everything seems to be backwards in this world.  Our people needed immediate action, not someone to think about future penalties.

We need to learn to turn the other cheek, this is an example of truly understanding that lesson.  Turn the other cheek  help to solve the problem, do not exacerabe the problem and increase the suffering! Quit complaining and call your Congressman and tell him or her to move the President off dead center, maybe he has to get the names of these people with the clean up ability, who are trying to contact the government from Hannity!

Our government is now facing the danger of losing our best friend, England, of destroying the pensions of our English friends, of killing a company, all because we are focusing on complaints, sorrow and suffering. This is not helpful to those who are crying, who have lost their life long jobs and businesses.  They need to see action.  The liberated countries of Europe are what come to mind,  they saw action, marching through the streets when Victory in Europe was declared.  Though devastated, hope was before their eyes.  What have we done to give our people HOPE!

 We need to create a positive attitude, we need a leader that knows how to do that, to speak to our people and say..".help BP to solve the problem, support clean up, suppor the locals, I am sending private businessmen to clean up the bayous, work will begin within so many days, and you will be back in business within a month!"  Not just talk, mean it and get it done!  Put together work crews, unemployed, trusted prisoners, national guard, whatever, but get it done.!

Now is the time to create jobs, offer hope, get the new clean up ideas out on the surface of the ocean  and swamps to capture the oil.  Action is what we need, compassion, understanding and all the help the brilliance of our country can bring to the table.

We can do it with leadership. Our government is lacking in what we as a country are known for,the men and women  who braved public opinion and failure to step up to the plate and make things happen, right or wrong but get an action in place!  Where are these leaders?  We need to find them and vote them into office.  We love our action figures, now we need to create action figures in government instead of complacent politicians,  vote seekers who occupy office for life,  who do not know the daily travails of surviving in business and the need to spring into action.

Let the oil clean up fund we hold languish, while are shores are polluted, hmmm?  Could this possibly have a reason?

This could bring a break through in the way we approach cancer, viral causes have been established  in some cancers, and I would not be surprised to find out that there are many more.  When I was a child, I often wondered when I ate the flesh of an animal, would I get cancer , if I inadvertenly ate that animal's cancer cells?  Our bodies are suppose to be able to handle that according to....but, how does anyone really know?

For years, I have seen in the alternate health area, the idea that cancer is caused by a virus; the viral damage could linger for a long time before blooming into cancer, or it could trigger a cancer right away.

  It boils down to the same thing we learn in teaching.  There are multifaceted ways to look at everything, and  approach problems.  Maybe this is why so many of us are interested in alternate health.  There are theories that say fungus, yeast , mold, alkaline acid balance in the body, are causes of cancer.  We could be overwhelmed and we are, maybe all these things cause cancer.

Researchers optimistic in cancer fight, as disease spreads

Medical researchers are posting optimism in the long fight against cancer as advances were unveiled to combat the disease that continues to rise and remains the second biggest killer in the world.
"Our growing understanding of cancer's complex behavior is being translated into better, more targeted drugs against a variety of tumors," Douglas Blayney, president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), said at the group's annual meeting.

The most encouraging results unveiled in Chicago last week during the world's biggest gathering of cancer experts demonstrated the growing role of therapies targeting key tumor functions or helping the immune system destroy cancer cells instead of standard chemotherapy.
These advances showed increased rates of survival, particularly among patients with advanced or metastasized cancers, such as melanoma. There are few, if any, treatments against these types of cancers.
An experimental antibody known as ipilimumab activates the immune system's T cells, which then seek and destroy melanoma cells, instead of targeting the cancer cell itself like previous treatments.
Researchers found the drug was the first to extend the lives of patients with advanced melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Melanoma cases have climbed faster than any other cancer type over the past 30 years.
Another new experimental drug, crizotinib was shown to shrink tumors in advanced lung cancer patients with a specific type of genetic alteration by neutralizing an enzyme implicated in cancer cell growth, known as anaplastic lymphoma kinase, or ALK.
Lung cancer is the most frequent and deadliest of all cancers worldwide.
Another clinical trial found that long-term treatment with the drug Avastin, which cuts off supply of nutrient-rich blood to tumors, may help control progress of advanced ovarian cancer.


Adding radiation therapy to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) was also found to cut by 43 percent the risk of death in men suffering from locally advanced or high-risk prostate cancer.


"We really want to improve the quality of life of the patients with fewer side effects and some of these new approaches really accomplished that," University of Pennsylvania professor of medicine Lynn Schuchter told AFP.
Driving home that point, the ASCO meeting devoted its theme this year to "advancing quality through innovation."
Despite the progress and improvement of care since president Richard Nixon declared war against cancer in 1971, the disease remains far too frequent in the United States.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates that nearly 1.5 million new cases were recorded in 2009, killing over 560,000 people.

A recent report by the World Health Organization warned the number of cancer deaths could double worldwide by 2030, to reach 13 million.

As industrialized countries struggle to care for an aging population, nearly half of all men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lives, according to the ACS.


Several types of cancers -- liver, pancreas, ovarian, lung and brain -- are particularly lethal and do not respond well to existing therapies.

But the incidence of cancer is tied to lifestyles, placing the onus on prevention efforts.
Nearly 40 percent of the drop in male cancer deaths from 1990 to 2006 owed to a reduction in lung cancer, whose main culprit is smoking.

Interesting article.  As a user of dietary supplements rather than drugs, whenever possible, I do not like the idea of regulating dietary supplements, such as vitamins and the like.  Instead of ibuprophen, for arthritis, I take peptan 500 a purified collegen powder and Danish Rose Hips.  The FDA says this is safe and it works in many people.

We hear almost daily reports of governmental ineptitude and fraud but blindly assume this will not seriously impact us.

After suffering nearly 60 years under the rule of a centrally directed economic dictatorship, the population is impoverished. Famine is estimated to have killed millions in the mid 1990s and remains a threat today. South Korea, on the other hand, has the 30th highest per capita income in the world.

Off Shore Drilling

Just wondering, as many boaters know, the ocean has various depths, whether close to shore or even miles off shore.  If we drilled in shallower water, even closer to shore rather than excessive miles out to sea, would we have been able to handle this disaster quicker, and  more efficiently?  Maybe this question should be part of the analysis of the off shore drilling regulations.  I don't claim to know the answers, however, before we shut down the industry with a ban, we should be considering how to avoid this type of accident and if the distance off shore could be taken into account.

The other question is that rather than have the fisherman, and many men who are out of work, just sit there and do nothing, why not use them BP to build even small berms that would contain the oil along the shorelines that have not been touched yet?   People are desparate for jobs, especially in the States that are hit with this pollution.  Again, I am not an expert on this, but in addition to a million dollars BP has given for relief to be doled out, why not provide jobs in the clean up which should be going on now with as many workers as possible.

Many children have already seen the movie, but that might be more incentive to read the book, and maybe they would love to have the book in their collection!  Pay attention, ask them how they like the story, find out what kinds of books they like to read.  My grandson loves science fiction and I encourage that, he has a collection of authors he follows.  Now , I am trying to broaden his spectrum into other subjects.

Teenager at home?  This is a must for parents of teens, and also for the teen.  When I was reading this,   I remembered my own 17th year,and how difficult it must have been for my mother, alone,because my Dad died young.  She was with out her husband to guide her through the tough years of raising two children.  We did not scream , we had some disagreements but we worked it out!

My mother was trusting, loving and caring!  I learned from that to give back what she gave me, love, respect and caring for her, as did my brother.   This book is a breath of fresh air for both parents and teens

This book is great for teachers, musicians, and others who love music and love to learn.  It sat on my book table for quite awhile before I could get into it, but then, it was wonderful.  I may even read it again, and the amazing thing is that  I very seldom do I re read a book, but this, I just might.

Rupert Sheldrake talks about the morphic resonance changing, and lo and behold I opened this book and  the author is speaking of the change in DNA, and how it takes 50,000 years.  Both men coming at the same conclusion from different perspectives.

MORPHIC RESONANCE AND MORPHIC FIELDS

In the hypothesis of formative causation, discussed in detail in my books A NEW SCIENCE OF LIFE and THE PRESENCE OF THE PAST, I propose that memory is inherent in nature. Most of the so-called laws of nature are more like habits.



My interest in evolutionary habits arose when I was engaged in research in developmental biology, and was reinforced by reading Charles Darwin, for whom the habits of organisms were of central importance. As Francis Huxley has pointed out, Darwin’s most famous book could more appropriately have been entitled The Origin of Habits.



Morphic fields in biology

Over the course of fifteen years of research on plant development, I came to the conclusion that for understanding the development of plants, their morphogenesis, genes and gene products are not enough. Morphogenesis also depends on organizing fields. The same arguments apply to the development of animals. Since the 1920s many developmental biologists have proposed that biological organization depends on fields, variously called biological fields, or developmental fields, or positional fields, or morphogenetic fields.



All cells come from other cells, and all cells inherit fields of organization. Genes are part of this organization. They play an essential role. But they do not explain the organization itself. Why not?



Thanks to molecular biology, we know what genes do. They enable organisms to make particular proteins. Other genes are involved in the control of protein synthesis. Identifiable genes are switched on and particular proteins made at the beginning of new developmental processes. Some of these developmental switch genes, like the Hox genes in fruit flies, worms, fish and mammals, are very similar. In evolutionary terms, they are highly conserved. But switching on genes such as these cannot in itself determine form, otherwise fruit flies would not look different from us.



Many organisms live as free cells, including many yeasts, bacteria and amoebas. Some form complex mineral skeletons, as in diatoms and radiolarians, spectacularly pictured in the nineteenth century by Ernst Haeckel. Just making the right proteins at the right times cannot explain the complex skeletons of such structures without many other forces coming into play, including the organizing activity of cell membranes and microtubules.

Most developmental biologists accept the need for a holistic or integrative conception of living organization. Otherwise biology will go on floundering, even drowning, in oceans of data, as yet more genomes are sequenced, genes are cloned and proteins are characterized.



I suggest that morphogenetic fields work by imposing patterns on otherwise random or indeterminate patterns of activity. For example they cause microtubules to crystallize in one part of the cell rather than another, even though the subunits from which they are made are present throughout the cell.



Morphogenetic fields are not fixed forever, but evolve. The fields of Afghan hounds and poodles have become different from those of their common ancestors, wolves. How are these fields inherited? I propose that that they are transmitted from past members of the species through a kind of non-local resonance, called morphic resonance.



The fields organizing the activity of the nervous system are likewise inherited through morphic resonance, conveying a collective, instinctive memory. Each individual both draws upon and contributes to the collective memory of the species. This means that new patterns of behaviour can spread more rapidly than would otherwise be possible. For example, if rats of a particular breed learn a new trick in Harvard, then rats of that breed should be able to learn the same trick faster all over the world, say in Edinburgh and Melbourne. There is already evidence from laboratory experiments (discussed in A NEW SCIENCE OF LIFE) that this actually happens.



The resonance of a brain with its own past states also helps to explain the memories of individual animals and humans. There is no need for all memories to be “stored” inside the brain.



Social groups are likewise organized by fields, as in schools of fish and flocks of birds. Human societies have memories that are transmitted through the culture of the group, and are most explicitly communicated through the ritual re-enactment of a founding story or myth, as in the Jewish Passover celebration, the Christian Holy Communion and the American thanksgiving dinner, through which the past become present through a kind of resonance with those who have performed the same rituals before.



The memory of nature

From the point of view of the hypothesis of morphic resonance, there is no need to suppose that all the laws of nature sprang into being fully formed at the moment of the Big Bang, like a kind of cosmic Napoleonic code, or that they exist in a metaphysical realm beyond time and space.



Before the general acceptance of the Big Bang theory in the 1960s, eternal laws seemed to make sense. The universe itself was thought to be eternal and evolution was confined to the biological realm. But we now live in a radically evolutionary universe.



If we want to stick to the idea of natural laws, we could say that as nature itself evolves, the laws of nature also evolve, just as human laws evolve over time. But then how would natural laws be remembered or enforced? The law metaphor is embarrassingly anthropomorphic. Habits are less human-centred. Many kinds of organisms have habits, but only humans have laws. The habits of nature depend on non-local similarity reinforcement. Through morphic resonance, the patterns of activity in self-organizing systems are influenced by similar patterns in the past, giving each species and each kind of self-organizing system a collective memory.



I believe that the natural selection of habits will play an essential part in any integrated theory of evolution, including not just biological evolution, but also physical, chemical, cosmic, social, mental and cultural evolution (as discussed in THE PRESENCE OF THE PAST ).



Habits are subject to natural selection; and the more often they are repeated, the more probable they become, other things being equal. Animals inherit the successful habits of their species as instincts. We inherit bodily, emotional, mental and cultural habits, including the habits of our languages.



Fields of the mind

Morphic fields underlie our mental activity and our perceptions, and lead to a new theory of vision, as discussed in THE SENSE OF BEING STARED AT. The morphic fields of social groups connect together members of the group even when they are many miles apart, and provide channels of communication through which organisms can stay in touch at a distance. Lke Placid was the staging location for our antique Bentely Drivers Club.  We drove all around the area, and I particularly liked Lake George.

The Forgotton Garden by Kate Morton

Here is a book I could not put down.  I reached a point where I could no longer read my factual novels.  Burnout!  So went looking for something thick to travel with.  Oops!  The suspense is so good, that I read aprx two thirds of the novel last night , to page 389

I wanted to go to sleep but pushed on....there were some blahs, where I did some speed reading, you know checking the first sentence, glancing the paragraph, (they could have been omitted)  but the desire to continue was there!  I am going to finish the book today, I know that!  I have two others to start on for the week, just relax novels, fun and no pondering why this or that.

The Forgotten Garden, is story that will glue you to the book, it changes scenes, and has space, from England to Australia and back.  It has morals to think about, and it focuses on different characters in different time periods, so it meets all the requirements of a good novel, while you wonder about the mystery in the book.  Who is Nan, where did she come from?  She was found on the dock in Austrailia at 4 years old.

She did not know she was a foundling , but when she discovered that she fell apart and so begins the quest to solve the mystery!  It is a clever plot, well thought out....a beach read!

Looking for Ancestors/

Ancestry.com is a great place to start...on line and then you can delve deeper with databases if you need to...

We found our great grandparents who immigrated to the United States in 1900, with their children and children's spouses, if married.  We found all the birth dates of aunts and uncles.  It is a fun project, because you can see how hard they worked to earn passage money.  All of the maternal family came as laborers and most likely all were stone masons, they settled in New Haven ,Connecticut,

Towns are going crazy!

 Real Estate is in bad shape.....but the towns are not able to figure it out...!!!  Instead of encouraging new construction to keep people employed, and bring in taxes, they are increasing the fees to builders, some of them are outrageous, and will be challenged, costing the towns more money to defend themselves in court.

The Winner Stands Alone

Finally finished!  Paulo Coelho characters are hard to leave.  In this book the character that moves the book is evil, and not likeable for any reason.  I was tempted to abandon the book, because I do not like to read about evil.  However, I stayed with it, because Coelho has much to say about the social condition, and I like his comments peppered through the narrative about our universal concerns.  If you like Paulo Coehlo, it is worth reading.   The underside of life at the Cannes film festival, is probably worth knowing, because we all see if for glitz and glamour, when it is really a place where everyone goes to be seen, be used, and to be promoted, or to promote products, films, directors and actors.  It is a world that is far too unattainable for the ordinary, and a lesson for young girls dreaming of stardom.  The span of opportunity according to Coehlo, is very short, so girls especially have to sacrifice and take chances, while disappointment , is around every corner.  It is but a segment of life in the real world, that is based on beauty, unreality, and rariefied air.

Betty White got on Saturday Night Live, because of her facebook fans.  This is an illustration of the tremendous power of facebook to date. ( Before it gets taxed, or shut down for sedition)

Now George Orwell style, big brother is stepping in...
Obama announced last week controls and taxes needed for internet, and other technology, including wii and the new i-pad!  ( and did he say something like this.... 'cause they are dangerous to our kids and  society, spreading lies'?)   (???emphasis???)

Yet, his campaign used techonology the best so far, of any campaign. Is this a plot to deter future campaigns from the advantage of free and untaxed speech or is free speech, now going to be taxed?   What will be next, books?

It looks like facebook wants to become political.! ( that may not be the case, it might just be a good business deal, but, since it is political, it should be balanced)

  Maybe this will ,in fact, create a new boredom in politics.

Facebook, a collective consciousness

Facebook got Betty White a spot on Saturday Night Live,  maybe Facebook will bring our society to the strength it needs to fight the new threats we face as a nation.  Facebook is a collective consciousness.  We need to hear more voices about how to face the future.  Party lines are old hat, lobbying efforts by the oil companies, show you now, that even though we had laws to prevent damage in spills, the laws were not enforced.  How ridiculous, the EPA, worries about hay bales, to prevent 1 inch of run off in a 50 year storm, into a wetland (which occurs in nature, anyway) while the protective measures for oil rigs are ignored!  A perfect example of how government fails us. 

Recently, someone died in a road accident, right at a spot, where run off from a property has made a hugh gouge in the earth leading into the street.  All during freezing weather, there is an ice pocket on the road at this spot, and no one does anything about it.  The police obviously did not even bother to notice that the property owner is creating a hazardous situation on the street, even with the death of a driver, on this night with freezing temperatures.  Where is the conscience of the homeowner, who continues to do nothing about it?  Where is the family of this young man?  Did they come and see the spot where he died, and ask questions about the run off.  The evidence is damning.

During the last administration a law requiring unions to disclose their finances, etc., was put on the books.   Why not?   All tax free organizations have to report their finances.  Well, within 8-12 weeks of the new administration taking office, the law was conveniently removed.  Interesting, isn't it?  How long will we continue to be sheep? 

Israeli Agent Advice, Plan for your family safety

After my blog was written this morning, I got this as an e-mail that is going around on the internet.  It is appropriate to consider this, in light of the fact that we continue unaware of the pending danger.  We need to take protective measures and they may not be politically correct.  Our people and our country have to be first.  Did you ever realize that just the words we use help to convey, the attitude we put forth to the world, and, create the direction we head in.  Traitor, is what you call an American Citizen, who trys to bomb a building or a city, even if his citizenship was just a scam.

Start of internet article, being sent by e-mail ....I have not corroborated it,  the advice is important, anyway.

This Israeli agent has since been hired by Congress- he was right too many times. England , Ireland have adopted Israeli suggestions. However, American public is “unable to handle the information”. See the “trials” and resulting no action by the public.
Advice from an Israeli Agent

Juval Aviv was the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie ' Munich ' was based. He was Golda Meir's bodyguard, and she appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games.
In a lecture in New York City he shared information that EVERY American needs to know -- but that our government has not yet shared with us.

He predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O'Reilly laughed, and mocked him saying that in a week he wanted him back on the show. Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred.

Juval Aviv gave intelligence (via what he had gathered in Israel and the Middle East ) to the Bush Administration about 9/11, a month before it occurred. His report specifically said they would use planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments. Congress has since hired him as a security consultant.

Now for his future predictions. He predicts the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur within the next few months.

Forget hijacking airplanes, because he says terrorists will NEVER try and hijack a plane again as they know the people onboard will never go down quietly again. Aviv believes our airport security is a joke -- that we have been reactionary rather than proactive in developing strategies that are truly effective.

For example:

1) Our airport technology is outdated. We look for metal, and the new explosives are made of plastic.

2) He talked about how some idiot tried to light his shoe on fire. Because of that, now everyone has to take off their shoes. A group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives. Now we can't bring liquids on board. He says he's waiting for some suicidal maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; at which point, security will have us all traveling naked!

Every strategy we have is reactionary.

3) We only focus on security when people are heading to the gates.

Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport when/where people are checking in. It would be easy for someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they run to the restroom or get a drink, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets involved. In Israel , security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER the airport.


Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate. (i.e., Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, big cities (New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.) and that it will also include shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc., as well as, rural America this time. The interlands ( Wyoming , Montana , etc.).

The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country (terrorists like big impact), involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas.

Aviv says terrorists won't need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away.


Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but that our U. S. Government does not want to 'alarm American citizens' with the facts. The world is quickly going to become 'a different place', and issues like 'global warming' and political correctness will become totally irrelevant.

On an encouraging note, he says that Americans don't have to be concerned about being nuked. Aviv says the terrorists who want to destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons. They like to use suicide as a front-line approach. It's cheap, it's easy, it's effective; and they have an infinite abundance of young militants more than willing to 'meet their destiny'.
He also says the next level of terrorists, over which America should be most concerned, will not be coming from abroad. But will be, instead, 'homegrown', having attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. He says to look for 'students' who frequently travel back and forth to the Middle East . These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans; but that we Americans won't know/understand a thing about them.
Aviv says that, as a people, Americans are unaware and uneducated about the terrorist threats we will inevitably face. America still has only a handful of Arabic and Farsi speaking people in our intelligence networks, and Aviv says it is critical that we change that fact SOON.

So, what can America do to protect itself? From an intelligence perspective, Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for intelligence. We need to, instead, follow Israel 's, Ireland 's and England 's hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration perspective as well as to pay attention to, and trust 'aware' citizens to help. We need to engage and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U. S. government continues to treat us, its citizens, 'like babies'. Our government thinks we 'can't handle the truth' and are concerned that we'll panic if we understand the realities of terrorism. Aviv says this is a deadly mistake.

Aviv recently created/executed a security test for our Congress, by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in Chicago , someone tried to steal the briefcase!

In comparison, Aviv says that citizens of Israel are so well 'trained' that an unattended bag or package would be reported in seconds by citizen(s) who know to publicly shout, 'Unattended Bag!' The area would be quickly & calmly cleared by the citizens themselves.

Unfortunately, America hasn't been yet 'hurt enough' by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its citizens or for the government to understand that it's their citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism.

\Aviv also was concerned about the high number of children here in America who were in preschool and kindergarten after 9/11, who were 'lost' without parents being able to pick them up, and about our schools that had no plan in place to best care for the students until parents could get there. (In New York City , this was days, in some cases!)

He stresses the importance of having a plan, that's agreed upon within your family, of how to respond in the event of a terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children's schools and demand that the schools too, develop plans of actions, just as they do in Israel .

Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow.

Aviv says that the U. S. government has in force a plan, that in the event of another terrorist attack, EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, blackberries, etc., will immediately be cut-off, as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated.

How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot speak to each other? You need to have a plan.
If you understand, and believe what you have just read, then you must feel compelled to send this to every concerned parent, guardian, grandparents, uncles, aunts, whomever. Don't stop there. In addition to sharing this via e-mail, contact and discuss this information with whomever it makes sense to. Make contingency plans with those you care about. Better that you have plans in place, and never have to use them, then to have no plans in place, and find you needed them.

If you choose not to share this, or not to have a plan in place, and nothing ever occurs -- good for you! However, in the event something does happen, and even moreso, if it directly affects your loved ones, then this e-mail will haunt you forever.

Telling yourself after the fact, "I should have sent this to so and so, but deleted it as so much trash from old Bill Jones, plus, I just didn't believe it", will not change anything. You were alerted, had the chance to do something, and instead of erring on the side of caution, you chose to disregard, if nothing else, a sensible, valuable warning.

The First War of Physics by Jim Baggott

If you only read the review of this book,  by Michael Dobbs, in the Sunday, May 8, 2010, New York Times Book Review, Page 18, you will gather information from the past, that will help you make decisions for the future.  This book was first published November  5,2009, as a paperback.  The hardcover is missing the word Atomic on the cover.  The hard cover was published, April 13,2010, with the new title , The First War of Physics.

Basically, what Dobbs, the reviewer says is,  it boils down to is a war within a war, just as we are now fighting a war within a war.

In reading the review, I could only think about us now, in view of the past.
  Our voices are disident...one side is fighting a war for God, our side is trying to bring Democracy, but there has to be more to it than that.  Why are we building roads, school, bridges, etc., in the middle east, when in our own country, the bridges are crumbling, the schools are not keeping up with the changes in society, our construction industry is flat on it's back, and the world is tumbling down around us, as jobs disappear, and economies drift toward the bottom.  Union workers are demonizing Greece, objecting to the cut backs that have to come as Greece struggles to get back on its feet.  We are just overwhelmed with our entitlement programs around the world, our generosity exceeds our pocketbooks....all this, as we send our resources overseas, never to recoup them.   We need to modernize our own world.  Have you seen the pictures of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, today?

These two cities were totally destroyed by the two  Atomic Bombs , Fat Man and Little Boy in 1945, today, these cities put our cities to shame with their beauty!  Oh, if only we could put our efforts, our precious resources toward this wondrous beauty, instead of war.  You can find pictures of these cities on the internet, by the way.

The most important paragraph in this review by Michael Dobbs, is the last paragraph.  He states, that this book reminds us, that wars are more than a fight on battlefields.  They are also a struggle between competing ideologies,  competing economic stystems, competing ways of life, and the military potential each country has.

When I was in college, Dr. Bowler my economics professor proclaimed one day, (in the 1960's) that wars of the future would be gorilla wars, because that was the only way to come after a super power.  It was as though a light went on in my head, because in that moment in time, I knew he was correct, and we have seen it come to pass!  Yet, we have done nothing to successfully wage war against our enemies.  We have not come together as a people, all we do is bicker while one side trys to find every redemable reason for the enemy to act the way he acts, instead of us joining and acting together against the enemy.  Why is it so difficult to come together, and face the threat as gorilla warfare.  Just look at what gorilla warfare is doing to Mexico, and some of the other countries, who have let this type of war wage on and on.  Yes, the drug wars, are also gorilla warfare,   it is the most fearsome way of war, because it becomes personal, so leaders become afraid to act.  Maybe gorilla warfare began in our country back in the 60's with the Weathermen,  it's success was noted, and used from then on by dissident groups, drug dealers, the underworld, etc.   We never waged a successful war on drugs, so we showed the world we can not handle a counter attack on gorilla warfare, because we will not fight that way. 


Now, back to that last paragraph,  he says that in the second world war the underlying war within the war, was the race to build the 'bomb'.  He goes on to say, and I quote, "  The nuclear arms race underscores an important historical truth:  It was America's strengths as a society, and not simply as a miliary power, that led to victory in both World War 2 and the cold war."

Comon, you guys, you are the generation who will end up with this mess!  We need to say "No" to drugs, if you don't know now, that they fuel gorilla warfare, then we are in real trouble.  Illegal drug sales fuel most if not all of gorilla warfare, trillions of dollars of our money, comes back to us in bombs ( also fueled by the illegal sale of weapons) ! 

We need new strategies, and we need to try things, we can not sit back and take the psycological pathway, some people feel we need before we  take actions.  We need to try  things, maybe we need to mind our own business, as we did at the beginning of the second world war, be isolationist, and wait, til our society catches up and can control its own behavior.  Maybe we need to stand back from other people's problems,.  Perhaps we need to charge for our expenses, our troops and equipment that we abandon in far way countries, charge others  for re-building their world.   That brings us to the most important question, should we stop  policing the world, after all we were never voted in for that by the world's population.

 Incongruous, that we police the world but, can not police our own borders!  We rebuild war torn countries, but not our own!  Shame on us! Someone has to be brave enough to come up with ideas, and get the population behind him or her...!!  Who amongst this new generation will step up to the plate?

Now, as we discuss, if we should consider modifying our laws to handle  traitors in this new world, maybe it is time to do some thinking about what the word traitor, once meant, and how seriously we took the word, traitor! 

After the 2nd world war, forgiveness was still important, even to those who had suffered, and psychiatrists blamed mother fixation, underlying homosexual tendencies, the need to belong, etc., and thought that if we stayed true to our beliefs in the world, that we would be able to re-eduate the aberrant souls.

Jonestown suicides, show that re-education is not enough, it is not fast enough, sufficient enough, etc.  The ability of cults to destroy families, and individuals, is proof that we can not deal with aberrant behavior in manners that take a long period of time, alone.

Yes, our freedoms are most important, but, our society has a duty to it's people to protect them , with the risk on the individual who chooses to be a traitor, not on society.  So if we look at the status quo, from the point of view of the majority, can we come up with something that protects society , yet does not hinder our individual right to dissent?  I guess it boils down to, "peaceful dissent", and when it goes beyond peaceful dissent, you are looking at the danger zone of individual freedom.

Obviously, we are not dealing with people who are willing or want to change their thinking because they have been indoctrinated into a belief.  We know from our experience with the Jonestown suicides, how deeply people can be indoctrinated.

Horses and Carriages

If you are interested in carriage driving, this is a sport in the Olympics.  On Columbus Day weekend there is a big event on carriage driving , I think it is in Kentucky.    The 4 in Hand Club strives to keep the sport of carriage driving alive, so that future generations can see what the coachs could do, what they were like, and how they evolved into the automobile.

Our horses had a good weekend and arrived home safe and sound, in spite of the heat and a blow out on the trailer.   The horses stayed calm and our men had the tire changed in 15 minutes. The temperature in the Delaware area was brutal...88degrees and 88 humidity! 

A spectacular Vis a Vis, came in next to us, with ladies carrying parasols, the whip and the two grooms riding postillion style.  But, it proved too much for the heavy ponderous horses.

Aspects of the Novel

Aspects of the novel     by E. M. Forrester    Many years ago, this was a bible for writers.        A good novel, is what this book tries to help deliver.  Time and space are the active ingredients, while he points out the difference between a good novel and a great novel.  It is humbling to read, but essential to the writer, to learn , how characters can be developed subtly,  how a story can have ragged ends, and more.  The greatness of War and Peace, Forrester points out is not only its sense of time but its sense of space, ( a great swath of space is covered in the novel).  I am reading it probably for the third time, maybe it will eventually rub off on me.  My first book is Secrets of the Heart.

 My book plays with time, as the main character, who lies dying in her hospital bed, alternates between time on earth and time visiting with departed friends, who are awaiting her coming arrival, in the next dimension.   The characters share the pain, joy and trial of their lives, while learning their pupose of life on earth, and ever lasting love.   Time the unseen and unknown dimension for such a long , long time, is becoming more important to us, as we realize we can pause it, expand it , recall it, and dream it for the future, making it malleable.
