ED TOWNSEND- FOR YOUR LOVE
Remember when your teens start to show their oats, that you too, were young once, and little crazy in your thoughts, maybe not in your actions.
Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire. Tap Dance duet.
Everyone loves the male dancer for his leading, his style, but how many of you think about the female partner that has to anticipate each move, even though plotted out and studied, it is still difficult for the female to respond and dance to the commands of the leader! Elenor Powell was a fantastic dancer in her own right, as were Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth, it had to be intimidating to dance with Fred Astaire, or Gene Kelley...
Swing Time - Rogers and Astaire
this is appropriate to watch after The Nicholas Brothers, note that Fred Astaire is wearing, "spats", those are the white covers on his shoes. They were worn by the military and civilians to keep mud off your ankles, back in the 30's and 30's and early 40's. Fred had a taste for dressing, and knew the value of having the eye attracted to his feet as he danced.
I've got a Gal in Kalamazoo
Wow! Athletic dancing like you have never seen! The Nicholas Brothers, were fantastic...Tex Beneke, Glen Miller, and more. You can see why we were a generation of music lovers, because many of the films of the time were music and dancing films.
Charlie Barnet - Skyliner
Did you know that commercial air travel did not begin until after the 2nd World War? The skyliner was the silver bird that took us places that we never could have gone in such short time. The first plane I flew on, had a wheel at the tail, much like the B52 bombers of the war, probably was a version of that?
Cherokee - Charlie Barnet
Here is another great from the past, that many of you don't know today. There was a time when we heard this music on the radio and thought it would never leave us. We loved the music and didn't envision the days of heavy metal and rap coming our way.
Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong - Dream a Little Dream of Me - JazzAndB...
Woops! How could I say..Harry James was ...did I say that? Louis...yes, Louis, and paired with Ella, it was dream music. Ella, skat, the horn, the contrast of their voices...its music calling out for repeat...in style, presentation, and more...

Here is that great group, Alvin and the chipmunks, who had us all singing in those long ago days
Spike Jones- All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
Spike Jones, how could we forget him? This song hit the air waves around the end of the 2nd World War! We were in a happy crazy mood as a country and loved this ! Alvin and the chipmunks came out with their version too!

Baby Its Cold Outside - Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban + Betty Ga...
A peek at 1949, when I thought I might be the new Esther Williams, ha ha, what a dream! She went on to marry Ricardo Montalban.
I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time (1940) - The Andrews Sisters
You can imagine how popular this song was during the 2nd World War, it played on our radio many times, as Mom and I sang along.
Many of my contemporarys can remember this song and it reminds them that their Mom's were young once and loved music, as did my Mom.

Top 40 Hits Of 1941 31 Charlie Barnet I Hear A Rhapsody
The war was creeping up, people were suffering in Europe, we where trying to stay out of the war, but, it was only a matter of time Dad said, " Mark my words, we will be in this war!" A song of longing was to become so important to the young men that were drafted, and quickly sent off to foreign shores...leaving behind the sound of the horn, that followed them in their minds, trailing a melody and a memory of their loved ones,as they crossed the ocean on troop ships. The ocean liners where conscripted and put into the service for transporting our men.
Jingle Bell Rock - Brian Setzer
One of my favorites by Brian...can you imagine coming to my home with this music playing , the beautiful lights ablaze, the smell of cider, sweets , and pine...oh! Those were the days! Treasure them...

Citizen Soldier: A Life of Harry S. Truman: Aida Donald: 9780465031207: Amazon.com: Books
Citizen Soldier: A Life of Harry S. Truman: Aida Donald: 9780465031207: Amazon.com: BooksI was watching book TV, just the other night, when I heard the author speak of her book on Truman. I plan to order it for my Kindle. Truman and Dewey ran a close race, Dad was a Republican, and voted for Dewey, he went to bed the night of the election saying that the election was over, Dewey had won! Everyone thought so that night, but in the morning, when we got our morning paper...In those days it was The Boston American, we heard Dad yell! Truman won!....no one could believe it...but it was confirmed on the radio and in The Framingham News, our hugh 3 foot wide paper that came in the late afternoon. It was a different town, a different time and it belonged to us!
DRAG RACING WHEN IT WAS FUN!
Chop cars, drag racing, and more all started after the War, our generation had cars! We rode in cars with no floor boards in the back seat. Doors did not open, they had no air conditioning, some of them smelled from age and cigarettes, etc...but......WE HAD CARS!
The Inkspots - We'll meet again.
My Aunts must have sung this song, as they waited for their husbands to come home. At our little table, Sundays we had our aunts join us for dinner. Dad was 4 F, which meant he could not go to war, so he was an air raid warden for the neighborhood. "When the air raid warning comes on... can I come with you, Dad?" It was not to happen, my job was to pull down the shades, and shut off the lights, til the air raid warning was over. Dad would put on his white helmet and take his white billy club, to patrol the neighborhood, making sure the lights were out and everyone was safe!
Vera Lynn - Auf Wiedersehn
We were at war with Germany, but this song we shared with our enemies....a song of such longing for those who lost their boyfriends and husbands, as they went off to war. Women too, went to war, but they where not drafted, they volunteered and flew the supply planes across the Atlantic. Women went to work! Wow! women could go to work, I was amazed, at how the world was changing. Our car factories switched to making tanks. Our women turned out amazing numbers of B 52 bombers each week!
Vera Lynn - When The Lights Go On Again.
Oh, how we filled with hope when we heard this song play on our radio's back in Framingham, Mass, in the early 1940's. Mom and I would sing this song, and tears come to me now, as I think of those days when we hoped and prayed our uncles would come home from the war alive and well. Some of them were wounded, but they all came home! How lucky we where! Not all families saw their loved ones come home!
