Annie Robinson, author of Peabody and Stearns: Country Houses and Seaside Cottages

This illustrated lecture will feature a discussion of the resort architecture of Peabody and Stearns, as well as sketches, plans and photographs by members of the firm and their contemporaries. Peabody and Stearns was a major contributor to the architectural fabric of Newport during the Gilded Age. Their summer cottages here and throughout the U.S. are the focus of a new book published in 2010 by W.W. Norton. Among their approximately 20 Newport projects were The Breakers of 1877 (destroyed by fire in 1892) for Pierre Lorillard, Beechbound, and Rough Point.
