Burl Ives Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

What was this?  Everyone wondered where he came from, it took awhile to accept this new reindeer , and the song rang out from all the radios

VAUGHN MONROE: There I've Said It Again + theme. Intro by Ronald Reagan

Another big hit for Vaughn Munroe, I can remember going to bed with his music in the background, as Dad and Mom listened to the radio in our bungalow on Hollis Street.  There was a metal sign on the corner  of our street, that told the story of Framingham, but the town has since removed it, wonder where it went?

Racing with the Moon by Vaughn Monroe

This was the theme song for Vaughn, another song that played on radio's everywhere, and at the Meadows in Framingham, when he owned it and sang there...

Vaughn Monroe - My Devotion (1942)

When I was becoming aware of music, this was playing on all the radio's in my friends homes.  Then my friend Lorraine Rossi's sister,  Virginia Rossi Lussier started playing Frank Sinatra, and the world fell for Frank.

Sonja Henie skates, Sun Valley Serenade finale 1941 HD

Our young girl idols were so different back in the early 1940's.  I dreamed of becoming a skater after I saw this film.

Dick Haymes & Artie Shaw Count every star 1950

According to a comment here, this became the first Doo Wop song when done by the Ravens...

Gladys Knight - Midnight Train To Georgia

this song is so beautiful and it is the best by Gladys

Dick Haymes - This time the dream's on me

Something about Dick Haymes reminds me of Michael Buble.. the tone of his voice...???  Dick Haymes was a great singer, who had great problems created by the press, and the fact that he was not a citizen during the war and avoided the draft, etc...so much more.

Buddy DeFranco - THIS TIME THE DREAMS ON ME

The little introductory music before the number begins, I think was the Paramount theme for their movies when we went to the Hollis Theater in Framingham, back in the 40's...

Why Do Fools Fall In Love-Frankie Lymon+The Teenagers-1956

time for a change of pace, back to the 50's....with the first teenagers

Edith Piaf - La Vie En Rose

A song written during the Second World War....it speaks of the longing

Edith Piaf - La Vie En Rose

This is the song that brought everyone to attention....her plaintiff voice had such longing in it.

Edith Piaf | Ed Sullivan Show

Edith Piaf | Ed Sullivan Show    I used the term waif....which I heard to describe her, so I had to see if in fact people had used that word to describe her...yes, it was so.

Julio Iglesias - La Mer.flv

Time to go forward with this most achingly beautiful arrangement and do something for our children, our society, get serious about making changes that are necessary...take care of those calling out for help, in the most terrible ways!

Alberto Iglesias - Petite Fleur - OST. The Skin I Live In

Did you know...this was Alberto Iglesias also.....I am sure you have heard the song, as I have, never knowing the name.

Billy May - Adios

Billy May, he had style , I loved his band back in the 50's...not too many artists with bands today.  The chorus of horns is missed.

Marty Robbins - Singing the Blues

Guy Mitchell was my favorite on this number , but Marty was right behind...

SMALL TOWN AMERICA, FRAMINGHAM
Can you find your grandparents in this picture below, I see Richard Belli and Fred Ablondi in the front row. Arlene Scansaroli and Carol Reichert in the 2nd row. Many others you might know, Rita Stevens, Gertrude Rogers, Richard Rotelli, etc...

From Kirkus Reviews...
"A first generation Italian-American born in the midst of the Great Depression, shares her real life childhood experiences during World War 2.  In this conversational recollection of her rural Massachusetts upbringing, Fafard, (Secrets of the Heart,2010) writes a paean to."The Greatest Generation."

Sixth Grade, Memorial School on Hollis Street, just after the end of the war.

Donald Duck was born in 1934 and Disney paved the way to a magical world that helped keep us all from the moment to moment  horrors of what was happening on distant shores.  We were so lucky to grow up in small town America.

I'm Yours - Don Cornell (1952)

What a voice...the hit of the 50's, time to bring it back...do you have the voice for this song?

Dean Martin - The River Seine

Here is a good melody to work with.  I have to remember who made this famous in the 50's...a french singer and actor..

La Mer - Django Reinhardt

We can't forget the glory of Django's playing....

Julio Iglesias - La Mer [Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy ending]

Wow!  You can't help but notice this at the end of the movie, "Tinker Tailer, Soldier Spy"!  I was reading the book and then saw the movie last night.  Bobby Darin has a great version, "Beyond the Sea", but I love this too...it is upbeat, and the music in the background is fabulous.  Just a great musical arrangment, and the sound of the French lyrics with the song, bien!

Andrea Bocelli - The Lord's Prayer.

what is more beautiful than this to say goodbye to those precious children and adults we lost this past week.

When Magoo Flew

and by the way, an airplane sounded like this in the early days of prop planes for commercial traffic

Wile E. Coyote vs Road Runner

are we there yet?  I'm still trying....did this make you laugh?

Laurel and Hardy - Way Out West (1937)

Saturday matinee at the Hollis Street theater, Framingham, Mass.  early 1940's enter for a nickle or a dime.  A giant Hershey milk chocolate was  ??? was it 10 cents?  Got sick on that once, too much candy, first time Mom gave me money for allowance, and I could buy all the candy I wanted!

Laurel and Hardy Dance To The Archies

Focus on something silly for a moment in time

THE ARCHIES - SUGAR SUGAR

Just because it is up and has a great beat

bob dylan-return to me.wmv

Never dreamed....Bob Dylan would make it sound good!  What do you think?

Marty Robbins-Some memories just won't die.

Bringing back Marty Robbins, he had a lot of great hits.

Return to me-Dean Martin

I don't know that there is anyone who does this better than Dean .  This is a poplular catchy son, if you are a Dean alike, maybe you should try it!

If Ever I Would Leave You - Gordon MacRae - From Camelot!

Gordon McRae, was wonderful to me, I saw all his shows when he came to the Carousel tent in Framingham...what a beautiful voice and such a handsome man!

Jo Stafford - Make Love To Me

As the comments state, it meant to kiss and hug, in the 1950's...and it was a big hit!

Kay Starr - Comes A-Long A-Love

Back to the 50's when life was so much simpler.....was it?  This was a major hit!
