The site of the 2008 Bentley Tour was the Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, Vermont. I looked it up on the computer and saw some remarks that made me wary of the condition of the rooms. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were clean and comfortable. The bed was reminiscent of Austria, and the food was terrific, more than enough with fresh baked pastries and breads.
We enjoyed the tour, especially the Smugglers Notch. We entered the gap at Smugglers Notch in the morning around 10 am, heading north. This turned out to be the best time and best direction to approach the gap. The light was perfect, the scene was surreal. I felt as though I was in a contemporary art gallery, as we passed the hugh stones, surrounded by trees spaced out in the special light. If you go to the gap, please be sure you go north in the morning. We returned later in the day and the effect was still great, but, the approach heading south will not give you the same feeling.
